What is Arsenicum sulphuratum flavum? Arsenicum sulphuratum flavum is a homeopathic remedy. It is made from orpiment, a soft yellow mineral. The Latin names are Auripigmentum and Arsenici trisulphidum. Chemists call it yellow arsenic sulphide. Homeopaths pick it for dry, itchy, flaky skin. They also use it for hay fever and head colds with a burning, runny nose. These uses come from old case notes, not from trials. The mineral is diluted again and again, with shaking at each step. At 30C there is no source material left in the pill. Trials have not shown this remedy to work better than a placebo (a dummy pill). Long use in a tradition is not proof that something works. That is true here. We report the old use and the trial record as two separate things. How does Arsenicum sulphuratum flavum work? There is no known way for this remedy to act on the body. That is the honest answer. Homeopathy works from an idea called "like cures like". A large dose of arsenic burns the skin, the nose and the gut. So homeopaths give a very small dose for burning skin and nose symptoms. The remedy is diluted in steps. Each step makes it weaker, not stronger. At 30C the chance that even one atom of orpiment is left is near zero. Lab work has not found any lasting change in the water or the sugar pill. So any benefit people report is best explained by placebo, by the illness passing on its own, or by the time and care the practitioner gives. What forms does Arsenicum sulphuratum flavum come in? The most common form is a small sugar pill. Liquid drops in alcohol and water are also sold. Some makers sell tablets or a skin cream. Strengths are written as 6C, 30C, 200C or as 6X, 30X. A higher number means more dilution steps. It does not mean a stronger drug in any measured way. Buy only from a licensed maker. Never use raw orpiment, mineral samples or artist pigment. Where it comes from: Orpiment has been mined and used for thousands of years. Painters loved its bright yellow colour. Old healers in Europe, India and China put arsenic minerals on sores and skin growths, and people were harmed by it. Homeopathy began in Germany around 1800. Arsenic sulphide remedies were written up in homeopathic texts during the 1800s. Within homeopathy this is a small, minor remedy rather than a leading one.

Helps

What does Arsenicum sulphuratum flavum help with? Dry, itchy, flaky skin: Homeopathic texts name this remedy for dry skin that itches and peels. The itch is said to get worse in the warmth of a bed. No human trial has tested it for this. Plain moisturiser has real proof behind it, so use that first. Scalp itching and dandruff: Old case notes mention an itchy, scaly scalp. This use rests on those notes alone. No trial supports it. Medicated shampoos are tested and work for most people. Hay fever with a runny, burning nose: Homeopaths choose it when the nose runs and feels raw or burning. Eyes may water too. We found no trial of this remedy for hay fever. Antihistamines (anti-allergy medicines) and steroid nasal sprays are proven options. Head cold with sneezing and watery eyes: This is a classic homeopathic picture for the remedy. A cold clears on its own in about a week. So it is easy to credit a remedy that did nothing. No trial has shown a benefit here. Stuffy, sore sinuses: Some homeopaths use it for a blocked, aching nose and face. Evidence is limited to case reports written by homeopaths. See a doctor if face pain, fever or thick discharge lasts more than ten days.

Where it comes from:

Orpiment has been mined and used for thousands of years. Painters loved its bright yellow colour. Old healers in Europe, India and China put arsenic minerals on sores and skin growths, and people were harmed by it.

If this is an emergency

Some reactions to Arsenicum sulphuratum flavum need urgent care. Call your local emergency number or go to an emergency department straight away — do not wait to see whether it passes.

Who should avoid Arsenicum sulphuratum flavum?

  • Do not use any dilution below 12C or 24X. These can still hold arsenic, which is a poison and can cause cancer.
  • Never swallow raw orpiment, mineral samples or artist pigment. This can poison or kill you.
  • Do not use it if you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant. Arsenic can harm an unborn baby.
  • Do not use it if you are breastfeeding.
  • Do not give it to a baby or child unless a doctor tells you to.

  • Do not stop or delay a medicine your doctor prescribed in order to try this.
  • Do not use it for a serious problem such as a bad infection, an asthma attack, chest pain or a spreading rash. Get medical care.

When should you see a doctor?

See a doctor if your symptoms last more than a week, or if they get worse at any point.

Get medical help the same day if you have a fever, a rash that spreads fast, face pain with thick nasal discharge, or trouble breathing.

Go to an emergency room or call your local emergency number if you have vomiting with watery diarrhoea, stomach cramps, a garlic smell on the breath, a burning feeling in the mouth or throat, or numb and tingling hands and feet after taking a low dilution. These can be signs of arsenic poisoning.

Always tell your doctor and your pharmacist what you are taking, including this remedy.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
