This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Postbiotics are bacteria — most commonly Lactobacillus or Bifidobacterium strains — that have been carefully heat-killed so they can no longer replicate, but their cell structures, proteins, and bioactive compounds remain intact and active. Think of them as the beneficial parts of a probiotic, stripped of the need to survive digestion or compete in your gut ecosystem. The term 'postbiotic' was formally defined by the International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics (ISAPP) in 2021, though heat-killed bacteria have been studied and used in clinical settings for several decades.
Your immune system recognizes the cell wall fragments and surface structures of heat-killed bacteria through pattern-recognition receptors in the gut lining. This recognition triggers a calibrated immune response — training your immune cells to be alert but balanced, reducing unnecessary inflammation, and strengthening the gut barrier. Because the bacteria are already dead, your body gets the immune-signaling benefit without any risk of infection or overgrowth. They also appear to support the production of anti-inflammatory compounds and help regulate the gut's protective mucus layer.
Capsules and sachets are the most common clinical formats and the easiest to dose precisely. Some fermented foods naturally contain heat-killed bacteria alongside live cultures. Topical postbiotic preparations are increasingly found in skincare products targeting eczema, rosacea, and sensitive skin, where they help calm immune overreactions in the skin barrier without applying live bacteria.
The use of heat-killed bacteria in medicine predates modern probiotics. Bacterial lysates and inactivated bacterial preparations have been used in European respiratory medicine since the mid-20th century to support immune defense. Japanese researchers pioneered much of the modern postbiotic science from the 1990s onward, particularly around heat-killed Lactobacillus plantarum strains. The field formalized rapidly after 2021 when ISAPP published a consensus definition distinguishing postbiotics from prebiotics, probiotics, and other biotics.
