This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Serotonin is one of your body's most important feel-good chemicals, made naturally from the amino acid tryptophan you get through food. About 90% of your body's serotonin actually lives in your gut, where it helps coordinate digestion, while the rest works in your brain to shape your mood, sleep cycles, and emotional responses. Supporting your body's own serotonin production — through food, sunlight, movement, and key nutrients — is one of the most effective and sustainable ways to feel mentally and physically well.
Your body builds serotonin in two steps: tryptophan (from food) is first converted into 5-HTP, then into serotonin, with vitamin B6 and iron acting as essential helpers along the way. Sunlight hitting your eyes and skin triggers serotonin release in the brain, which is one reason mood often lifts on bright days. Regular exercise, a healthy gut microbiome, and getting enough magnesium and omega-3s all make this production process more efficient and keep serotonin levels steady throughout the day.
Natural serotonin support works best as a combined approach: a tryptophan-rich diet, daily sunlight exposure, regular aerobic exercise, quality sleep, and gut health care. For those needing extra support, 5-HTP (50–300 mg/day) or L-tryptophan (500–2000 mg/day) supplements directly feed the serotonin pathway, while B6, magnesium, and omega-3 supplements fill common nutritional gaps that slow production.
Serotonin was first identified in the 1940s when researchers isolated it from blood serum and found it caused blood vessels to constrict — hence the name (serum + tonic). Its role in mood and mental health became a major focus in the 1950s–60s, eventually shaping the development of modern antidepressants. The understanding that lifestyle, diet, and gut health profoundly shape serotonin levels has grown dramatically since the 1990s, sparking wide interest in natural approaches to keeping this system balanced.
