Food keeps packing between two teeth
You eat, and the same little spot fills up every time. A shred of meat or a bit of bread wedges between two teeth. You feel the pressure, and you cannot settle until you floss it out.
Teeth are built to touch at one tight point. When that point breaks down, each bite drives food into the space. Decay on the side of a tooth can wear that contact away.
Other causes are common too. A filling may be worn, chipped, or the wrong shape, or gums may pull back. A tooth can also tilt or drift and leave a gap.
Packed food holds plaque right against the gum. That is why the spot may feel sore, puffy, or tender when you floss.
When to see someone
See a dentist if the same gap traps food at every meal. Get checked soon for pain that lingers after hot, cold, or sweet food, a dark spot, a chip, floss that shreds, or gums that bleed there. Go the same day for throbbing pain, a swollen face or jaw, fever, or a bad taste that keeps coming back.
Below is a list of home and folk remedies people have long used for tooth decay. Each one carries an evidence grade, which shows how much research has looked at it. A grade is not a promise of results, and the gap itself still needs a dentist's eyes.
