This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Zinc oxide is a naturally occurring mineral that sits on top of the skin and works as a physical shield against the sun's rays. Unlike chemical sunscreen filters that absorb UV and release heat, zinc oxide reflects and scatters UV radiation before it ever penetrates the skin. It has been used medicinally for thousands of years — from ancient calamine preparations to modern FDA-approved sunscreen formulations.
Zinc oxide particles create a physical barrier on the skin's surface that deflects both UVA (aging rays) and UVB (burning rays) — making it one of only two ingredients the FDA recognizes as both safe and effective for broad-spectrum UV protection. It also has mild anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, which is why it helps calm irritated or acne-prone skin. Because it works mechanically rather than chemically, it starts protecting the moment you apply it.
Zinc oxide sunscreens come as creams, lotions, sticks, and sprays. Pastes (like diaper creams with 10–40% zinc oxide) are thicker and used for barrier repair. Tinted versions use iron oxides to reduce the white cast and add protection against visible light — a bonus for people with melasma or hyperpigmentation. SPF in sunscreen products typically reflects the combined formula, not zinc oxide alone.
Zinc oxide has been used on skin for at least 3,000 years. Ancient Egyptians used zinc-containing preparations for wounds and skin conditions. Greek and Roman physicians applied zinc minerals to treat ulcers and rashes. In the 20th century, zinc oxide became the active ingredient in calamine lotion and baby rash creams before being recognized as a highly effective, broad-spectrum UV filter by the FDA and regulatory agencies worldwide.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
