This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Wu Mei is the processed fruit of Prunus mume, prepared by slowly smoking or baking unripe green plums until they turn dark and shriveled. It is one of the oldest and most widely referenced herbs in the Chinese materia medica, appearing prominently in the Han dynasty classic Shang Han Lun. In both Chinese and Japanese traditional medicine systems, it holds a central role as an astringent herb that 'restrains' fluids and settles erratic internal conditions.
Wu Mei works primarily through its high concentration of organic acids — especially malic and citric acid — which create an astringent, antimicrobial, and gut-settling environment. These acids help tighten the intestinal lining to reduce fluid loss in diarrhea, stimulate digestive secretions to improve food breakdown, and create conditions in the gut that are hostile to parasites and harmful bacteria. Its polyphenols and triterpenoids also provide anti-inflammatory support and help calm smooth muscle spasms in the gut and airways.
The most traditional preparation is as a decoction (boiled tea), either alone or as part of the classic Wu Mei Wan formula, which combines Wu Mei with warming and cooling herbs for complex digestive conditions. Convenient modern forms include standardized extract powders, capsules, and granules for tea. The whole dried fruit can be simmered at home. For parasites, higher-dose decoctions are typically used under practitioner guidance.
Wu Mei has been documented in Chinese medicine since at least 200 CE, when Zhang Zhongjing included the foundational Wu Mei Wan formula in the Shang Han Lun to treat jue yin (terminal yin) conditions characterized by mixed hot-cold digestive chaos, abdominal pain, and roundworm infestation. The fruit has also been a staple of East Asian cuisine — particularly Japanese ume products like umeboshi pickled plums and ume vinegar — where its health properties have been intuitively recognized for centuries.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
