What is Phellandrium aquaticum? Phellandrium aquaticum is a homeopathic remedy. It is made from water fennel, a tall plant that grows in ponds and wet ditches. Its Latin name is Oenanthe aquatica. It is a single drug remedy. That means it is made from one plant, not a mix of several. Homeopaths have used it for a long-lasting cough that brings up thick, bad-smelling phlegm (mucus). It is also a well-known homeopathic pick for sore, cracked nipples during breastfeeding. Old homeopathic texts list it for sharp pain in one side of the chest as well. The remedy is made by diluting the plant over and over. Each step takes a tiny drop and mixes it into a large amount of water or alcohol. At 30C, there is no plant matter left at all. Here is the plain verdict. No human trial has tested this remedy for any health problem. Large reviews of homeopathy as a whole have not found effects beyond placebo (a dummy treatment). Long use in a tradition is not proof that a remedy works. One more thing matters a lot. The fresh plant is poisonous. Never eat it, chew its seeds or drink its juice, and handle the strong tincture with care. Most people buy the remedy as small sugar pellets or as liquid drops. It is sold without a prescription in many countries. It is not a stand-in for care of asthma, pneumonia or any other chest illness. How does Phellandrium aquaticum work? There is no known way this remedy could act on the body at normal strengths. At 30C, no plant is left, so there is nothing to act. Homeopathy rests on two old ideas. The first is 'like cures like'. It says a substance that causes symptoms in a well person can ease the same symptoms in a sick person. The second idea is that shaking at each dilution step leaves some kind of trace or pattern in the liquid. Chemistry and biology have not found any such trace. So treat this as a belief within the tradition, not a proven action. Any benefit people report is best explained by time, by care and attention, and by placebo effect. What forms does Phellandrium aquaticum come in? You will usually see these forms: - Sugar pellets or tiny pills, sucked under the tongue - Liquid drops, made with water and alcohol - Mother tincture, a strong plant extract, sold only in some countries Common strengths are 3X, 6X, 6C and 30C. A higher number means more dilution steps and less chance of any plant being present. The mother tincture and very low strengths are the ones to be careful with, because plant material can still be there. Where it comes from: Water fennel grows across Europe in slow water and marshes. Old European folk medicine used the seeds for coughs and chest trouble. People also knew the plant as risky to eat. Homeopaths took it up in the 1800s. It appears in 19th-century homeopathic reference books, listed for coughs with heavy phlegm and for sore nipples in nursing mothers. It has always been a small remedy inside homeopathy, not a leading one. It has no standing in Ayurveda, Chinese medicine or Western herbal practice today.

Helps

What does Phellandrium aquaticum help with? Long-lasting cough with thick, foul-smelling phlegm: This is the main use in homeopathic texts. The picture is a wet, loose cough with a lot of mucus that smells bad. No human trial has tested Phellandrium for cough. A cough with foul phlegm can mean a lung infection, so get it checked. Sore or cracked nipples during breastfeeding: Homeopathic books give this as the best-known sign for the remedy. The classic note is sharp pain in the nipple between feeds. There is no trial evidence for this use. Sore nipples usually improve with help on how the baby latches on. Ask a midwife or breastfeeding adviser first. Sharp, one-sided chest pain between the ribs: Old texts list stabbing pain under the right shoulder blade or in the right chest. Nothing has been tested in people. Chest pain has many causes, and some are serious. Do not treat new chest pain at home. Wheezy, rattling breathing in older adults: Some homeopaths use it when an older person has a rattling chest and brings up a lot of mucus. There is no trial support. Keep taking any inhaler or medicine your doctor has given you.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
