This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Humming is one of the easiest and most accessible ways to activate the vagus nerve — the long nerve that runs from your brainstem down through your chest and belly, acting like a 'calm down' cable for your whole body. When you hum, the vibration travels through your throat and chest, directly stimulating vagal nerve endings. This sends a signal to your brain that you are safe, helping your body shift out of fight-or-flight mode.
The vagus nerve carries signals in both directions between the brain and the body, and it is heavily influenced by the breath and by sound vibration. Humming lengthens your exhale (which activates the parasympathetic 'rest and digest' system), stimulates receptors in the throat and larynx that feed directly into the vagus nerve, and triggers the release of nitric oxide in the nasal sinuses — a molecule that relaxes blood vessels and supports circulation. Together, these effects lower heart rate, reduce the stress hormone cortisol, and improve the balance between your nervous system's 'gas' and 'brake' pedals.
The simplest form is just humming any tone on a slow exhale through closed lips. Bhramari pranayama from the Ayurvedic yoga tradition adds a specific hand placement and a bee-like buzzing tone. Chanting practices (like 'Om' or long sustained vowels) work through the same mechanism. Guided apps and audio programs can help beginners pace their practice.
Humming and tonal chanting appear in virtually every traditional healing culture — from Bhramari in ancient Indian yoga texts, to Tibetan Buddhist overtone chanting, to Indigenous ceremonial singing, to Gregorian chant in European monasteries. What these traditions intuitively understood about the calming power of sustained vocalization, modern neuroscience is now mapping onto the anatomy of the vagus nerve. Clinical interest in humming as a specific vagal intervention has grown rapidly since the 2000s.
