This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Houttuynia cordata is a perennial herb that grows across humid regions of Asia and is one of the most widely used medicinal plants in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese traditional medicine. It has a distinctive fishy aroma due to its volatile compounds and is consumed both as food and medicine throughout the region. In traditional Chinese medicine it is known as Yu Xing Cao, meaning 'fish-smell herb,' and has been used for over a thousand years to treat lung infections, abscesses, and inflammatory conditions.
The herb works primarily through its key compound houttuynin, which disrupts bacterial cell membranes and inhibits viral replication. Its flavonoids — especially quercetin and rutin — dial down inflammatory signals in the body, reducing swelling and immune overreaction. Together these compounds support the immune system's ability to fight off pathogens while preventing the excessive inflammation that makes infections worse.
In Asian countries, fresh leaves are eaten raw in salads and used as a culinary garnish. For medicinal use, dried herb decoctions (teas) are most traditional and widely available. Capsule and liquid extracts standardized to flavonoid content offer more consistent dosing. Injectable formulations (sodium houttuyfonate) are used in Chinese hospitals but have been linked to serious allergic reactions and are not recommended for self-use. Topical preparations are used for skin infections and wounds.
Yu Xing Cao has been documented in Chinese medical texts since at least the Tang Dynasty (around 7th century CE). It was a key herb in classical prescriptions for lung abscesses and skin infections. During the 2003 SARS outbreak in China, it was incorporated into several traditional Chinese medicine treatment protocols, sparking renewed scientific interest in its antiviral potential. It remains one of the most commercially significant medicinal herbs in Asia, with widespread pharmaceutical production in China.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
