This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Echinacea and goldenseal is one of the most popular herbal combinations sold in North America, often found together in a single capsule or tincture. Echinacea (purple coneflower) was a staple of Indigenous American medicine used widely across Plains tribes for wounds, infections, and illness. Goldenseal, native to the eastern woodlands of North America, was valued by Cherokee and Iroquois peoples for its broad antimicrobial and mucosal-healing properties. Together they are considered a complementary pair — echinacea rallies immune defenses while goldenseal helps fight infection at mucosal surfaces like the throat, sinuses, and gut.
Echinacea works by activating white blood cells, particularly macrophages and natural killer cells, helping your immune system respond faster to invading bugs. Goldenseal's key compound, berberine, has well-documented ability to fight bacteria, fungi, and some viruses directly, and it also soothes inflamed mucous membranes in the respiratory and digestive tracts. Used together, the combination targets immune defense from two angles: stimulating the body's own defenses while also providing direct antimicrobial activity at infection sites.
The combination is most commonly sold as standardized capsules or tablets (look for echinacea standardized to 4% echinacosides and goldenseal standardized to 5% berberine). Liquid tinctures are popular for fast absorption and allow flexible dosing. Tea preparations exist but deliver lower concentrations of active compounds. Standardized extracts offer the most consistent potency.
Both herbs have centuries of documented use among Indigenous North American peoples. Echinacea was among the most used medicinal plants of the Great Plains, adopted rapidly by 19th-century American Eclectic physicians for infections and snake bites. Goldenseal became so popular in 19th-century botanical medicine that wild populations were significantly depleted — it is now a conservation concern and much commercial supply is cultivated. Their pairing became a fixture of American natural medicine in the 1970s-1980s health food movement and remains a top-selling herbal product globally.
