This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Glycolic acid is the smallest and most bioavailable of the alpha-hydroxy acids, with a molecular weight of 76 daltons that allows it to penetrate the skin more efficiently than other AHAs. It is found naturally in sugar cane (Saccharum officinarum) and is commercially derived from it for use in cosmeceutical and dermatological formulations. Its low pH and small molecular size make it the most clinically studied AHA for skin renewal applications.
Glycolic acid works primarily by disrupting ionic bonding between corneocytes in the stratum corneum — the outermost layer of skin — reducing corneocyte cohesion and accelerating desquamation (shedding of dead skin cells). At higher concentrations and with repeated use, it also stimulates fibroblast activity, upregulating collagen I, collagen III, and hyaluronic acid synthesis in the dermis. Additionally, it inhibits melanin transfer and disperses existing pigment clusters, contributing to its depigmenting effects.
Over-the-counter products typically contain 5–15% glycolic acid at pH 3.5–4.5. Professional chemical peels use 20–70%. Serums and toners deliver the most consistent skin contact; cleansers have limited contact time and lower efficacy. Body lotions with 10–15% are used for keratosis pilaris and rough skin on arms and legs. Buffered formulations reduce irritation but may reduce efficacy.
Glycolic acid's dermatological use was pioneered by Eugene Van Scott and Ruey Yu in research published in the 1970s–1990s, establishing AHAs as legitimate therapeutic agents. Sugar cane has been cultivated for over 4,000 years across South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific, and while traditional cultures used sugar cane extracts medicinally, the specific isolation and clinical use of glycolic acid as an exfoliant is a modern dermatological development from the late 20th century.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
