This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Natural vitamin C serums deliver concentrated ascorbic acid — or gentler plant-derived vitamin C forms — directly onto the skin, where it can work in ways that eating vitamin C simply cannot replicate. The 'natural' label refers to vitamin C sourced or stabilized using plant-based inputs like kakadu plum (the richest known food source of vitamin C), rose hip, or acerola cherry, rather than fully synthetic ascorbic acid. Because skin cannot make or store vitamin C on its own, applying it topically is one of the most effective ways to keep skin levels topped up.
Topical vitamin C works through three main pathways: it blocks the enzyme (tyrosinase) that drives melanin overproduction, helping fade dark spots and even out tone; it acts as a powerful antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals from UV exposure and pollution before they can damage skin cells; and it directly stimulates fibroblasts — the cells responsible for making collagen — helping skin stay firmer and more resilient over time. The lower the serum's pH (ideally 3.0–3.5 for L-ascorbic acid), the better it penetrates the outer skin barrier.
Water-based serums with L-ascorbic acid are the gold standard for efficacy but need to be stored carefully (dark, cool, airtight) to prevent oxidation — a yellowed or orange serum has lost much of its potency. Encapsulated and powder forms extend shelf life. Oil-based serums using tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate are excellent for dry or sensitive skin and do not require a low pH to work.
Vitamin C's role in skin health was first recognized through the study of scurvy, where collagen breakdown caused skin to deteriorate visibly. Topical application was explored seriously from the 1980s onward, with pioneering dermatology research in the 1990s — notably from researchers at Duke University — establishing that topical L-ascorbic acid at the right pH and concentration could measurably boost collagen and reduce photodamage. The natural and botanical vitamin C serum category has grown rapidly since the 2010s as consumers sought plant-sourced alternatives.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
