This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Bei Mu Gua Lou San is a traditional Chinese herbal formula composed of five to six herbs working together to address what classical medicine calls 'lung dryness with phlegm heat.' The formula's chief herbs — Fritillaria bulb (Bei Mu) and Trichosanthes fruit (Gua Lou) — are paired specifically to soften and loosen stubborn, dry phlegm that is difficult to expectorate. It has been used in Chinese medicine for several centuries and appears in the classical text 'Yi Xue Xin Wu' (Medical Revelations) by Cheng Guopeng, written in the Qing Dynasty.
The formula is traditionally understood to work by moistening dry lung tissue, cooling respiratory inflammation, and loosening thick phlegm so it can be expelled more easily. Fritillaria alkaloids are thought to relax bronchial smooth muscle and may help reduce airway secretion viscosity, while Trichosanthes compounds are believed to contribute anti-inflammatory and expectorant effects. The supporting herbs — Chen Pi and Jie Geng — are traditionally used to help move qi through the lungs and airways. Evidence for these effects remains preliminary and largely observational; no large-scale clinical trials have confirmed the formula's efficacy.
Traditional preparation involves simmering the herbs as a water decoction (tea), which is still widely used by practitioners. Modern products are most commonly sold as concentrated granules that dissolve in hot water, offering convenience without sacrificing the full herbal profile. Capsule and tablet forms are available but may contain less of the volatile aromatic compounds than the decoction or granule form.
Bei Mu Gua Lou San was formally documented in 'Yi Xue Xin Wu' (Medical Revelations) by Qing Dynasty physician Cheng Guopeng around 1732. It was designed specifically for a pattern of lung dryness and heat — a condition associated with dry autumn air, excessive talking, or febrile illness damaging lung fluids. It remains one of the most commonly prescribed classical formulas for dry or irritating coughs in both Traditional Chinese Medicine clinics and modern integrative respiratory care across East Asia.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
