Painful white spot inside my cheek
You feel a sore spot on the soft lining of your cheek. It may look like a small white or yellow dot. A red ring often sits around it.
Sores like this are often called canker sores. They are not the same as cold sores, which show up on the lips. A canker sore sits inside the mouth, and you cannot pass it to other people.
Many things can bring one on. A tooth bite, a hard brush, or a sharp chip of food can hurt the lining. Stress, low iron or B12, braces, and some foods play a part for some people.
When to see someone
See a dentist or doctor if the sore lasts more than two weeks. Get care for a sore wider than a pea, a high fever, or pain that stops you eating and drinking. Sores that keep coming back, or many at once, also need a check.
Below is a list of home and folk remedies used for canker sores. Each one has a grade that shows how much good research stands behind it. A high grade means more study, not a promise of any result.
