Helps

What does Berberine help with? Berberine is a bright yellow compound found in plants like barberry and goldenseal. Healers in China and India have used these plants for hundreds of years. Today it is sold as a capsule, mostly for blood sugar and blood fats. It is one of the most studied plant compounds in this library. Human trials back its use for blood sugar and cholesterol well. Other uses rest on smaller, mixed or less direct work. Type 2 diabetes and high blood sugar Strong evidence — many human clinical trials with matching results. In trials, people taking berberine had lower fasting blood sugar and lower A1C. Some trials found drops that compared well with certain diabetes drugs. Lab work suggests cells answer insulin better and the liver sends out less sugar. Evidence grade A · Traditional tier T0 High cholesterol and high triglycerides Strong evidence — consistent findings across human clinical trials. Across trials, LDL (the 'bad' cholesterol) and triglycerides went down. HDL (the 'good' kind) rose a little. Lab work points to less cholesterol made in the liver, plus more LDL receptors that clear it from the blood. Evidence grade A · Traditional tier T0 PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) Good evidence — clinical trials in women with PCOS, some compared with metformin. Trials found lower testosterone and more regular periods. Ovulation rates went up and some women lost weight. In some trials the results were close to those seen with metformin. Evidence grade B · Traditional tier T0 Insulin resistance and prediabetes Good evidence — human trials that measured insulin response, mostly in people who already had diabetes. In trials, cells answered insulin better while people took berberine. Most of that work was done in people with type 2 diabetes. The file holds less direct trial work in prediabetes on its own. Evidence grade B · Traditional tier T0 Fatty liver (NAFLD) Good evidence — clinical studies in people with fatty liver disease. Studies in people with NAFLD found less fat stored in the liver. Liver enzymes came down too. Other liver health markers improved during the studies. Evidence grade B · Traditional tier T0 Weight, waist size and body fat Good evidence — clinical studies run over 12 weeks. Over 12 weeks , studies found small drops in body weight, waist size and BMI. The changes were modest, not dramatic. In lab work, berberine switched on AMPK, a fuel-sensing switch that shifts cells toward burning fat. Evidence grade B · Traditional tier T0 Metabolic syndrome (several risk markers at once) Early evidence — drawn from trials on single parts of the cluster, not on the cluster as a whole. Metabolic syndrome means high blood sugar, high blood pressure, poor blood fats and belly fat together. Trials found berberine moved several of these markers in the same person. The file holds no single trial that tested the whole cluster. Evidence grade C · Traditional tier T0 High blood pressure Early evidence — smaller human studies, often with berberine added to usual care. Studies found small drops in blood pressure, mainly when it was taken alongside standard care. The effect was modest. Lab work points to more relaxed blood vessels and less metabolic stress. Evidence grade C · Traditional tier T0 Gut infections and gut bacteria Early evidence — older human studies in infectious diarrhea; the microbiome work is lab and animal. Human studies found berberine acted against some gut germs, including ones behind traveler's diarrhea. Lab and animal work found shifts in gut bacteria and less gut swelling. Those bacteria findings have not been matched by human trials on file. Evidence grade C · Traditional tier T0 What Berberine has not been shown to do No trial on file shows that berberine prevents heart attacks or strokes; the trials measured blood markers only. It has not been shown to replace diabetes or cholesterol drugs, and no trial on file tested stopping medication. Weight loss in the studies was small, so nothing on

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
