Mouth sores keep coming back
One sore heals up. A week or two later, a new one shows up in its place. These small round ulcers sit inside your lip, your cheek, or under your tongue.
Canker sores often come in cycles. Some people get a few each year. Others barely get a break between them.
Common triggers include stress, poor sleep, and biting the inside of your cheek. Hormone shifts, braces, and some foods play a part for many people. Low iron, folate, or vitamin B12 can also show up this way.
When to see someone
See a dentist or doctor if a sore lasts more than two weeks. Get checked right away for a hard or painless patch, or for sores that come with fever, a rash, sore eyes, or weight loss. If new sores keep arriving month after month, ask about a blood test for iron and B12.
Below is a list of traditional and home remedies people have used for canker sores. Each one carries a grade that shows how much good evidence exists for it. A grade is not a promise of results, so read it as a guide and check with your dentist or doctor first.
