Dizzy and lightheaded when I stand up
You get up from a chair or out of bed. The room tips, your head feels light, and your sight may go grey for a moment. Some people have to sit right back down and wait it out.
When you stand, blood pools in your legs. Nerves are meant to tell your blood vessels to squeeze and push that blood back up. Years of high blood sugar can harm those nerves, so the signal comes late or comes weak.
Your blood pressure then dips for a few seconds, and your brain gets less blood. Not drinking enough can add to it. So can some pills for blood pressure, water pills, and some heart and mood drugs.
When to see someone
Tell your doctor if you faint, fall, or come close to it. Get help right away if you also have chest pain, a pounding heart, a bad headache, slurred speech, or weakness on one side. Book a visit soon if it happens most days, if the dizzy feeling stays while you sit still, or if it started after a new pill or a dose change.
The list below holds home and folk remedies that people use for nerve damage from diabetes. Each one carries a grade for how much research stands behind it, not a promise about you. A low grade means the proof is thin or missing, so go over any choice with your doctor or nurse first.
