Chest feels tight climbing stairs
You start up a flight of stairs and feel a band across your chest. It may feel tight, heavy or squeezed. The feeling often fades once you stop and stand still.
This kind of tightness has many possible causes. Sore chest muscles, asthma, acid reflux and stress can all bring it on. It can also be a sign that blood flow to the heart is limited when you push yourself.
High cholesterol is one cause of narrowed blood vessels. Fatty plaque builds up inside artery walls over many years. That can leave less room for blood at the moment you climb or hurry.
When to see someone
Call emergency services if chest pain lasts more than a few minutes at rest. Do the same if pain spreads to your arm, jaw or back, or comes with sweating, nausea or short breath. See a doctor soon if the tightness starts at less and less effort, or if you faint.
Below is a list of traditional remedies linked to high cholesterol. Each one has a grade for how much human study stands behind it, not a promise for you. Talk with your doctor before you try any, above all if you take heart or statin drugs.
