What forms does it come in? Saline solution comes in various forms, including sterile solutions for wound irrigation, nasal sprays, and intravenous fluids. What if I have an imbalance or deficiency? A deficiency of saline solution can lead to dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, and impaired cellular function. In such cases, replenishing saline solution orally or intravenously is necessary. Helps

What does Saline Solution help with? Saline is just salt mixed with clean water. People rinse the nose with it, gargle it, put it in the eyes, or wash cuts with it. Most mixes match the salt level of the body's own fluids. The evidence is strongest for the nose. Rinsing has been tested in many randomised trials in people. Other uses, such as gargling and eye comfort, rest on smaller or older work. Blocked nose and sinus trouble Strong evidence — many randomised trials of saline nose rinsing in adults and children. In these trials, people who rinsed daily reported less stuffiness and less face pressure. Some also had fewer sinus infections over months of use. The wash itself lifts out thick mucus, dust and germs, which is a physical effect rather than a drug effect. Evidence grade A · Traditional tier T1 Hay fever and pollen season stuffiness Good evidence — randomised trials of daily nose rinsing through allergy season. In trials run across pollen season, daily rinses lowered sneezing and runny nose scores. Some people were able to use less allergy medicine. The rinse washes pollen and dust out of the nose before symptoms build. Evidence grade B · Traditional tier T1 Long-term nasal swelling that is not allergy Good evidence — human studies in people with ongoing rhinitis. In these studies, people who rinsed each day reported fewer nose symptoms. They also scored better on quality of life. Ear, nose and throat doctors often list rinsing as a first non-drug option. Evidence grade B · Traditional tier T1 Loosening chest mucus so you can cough it up Good evidence — trials of inhaled hypertonic saline, mostly in cystic fibrosis. Strong (hypertonic) saline is breathed in through a nebuliser. In cystic fibrosis trials, it thinned airway mucus and made it easier to cough up. Use for an ordinary chest cold is common, but far less well tested. Evidence grade B · Traditional tier T1 Colds and other upper airway bugs Early evidence — small and mixed human trials of rinsing during colds. Some trials found shorter or milder colds with nose rinsing. Others found little change. Rinsing clears mucus that carries the virus, which can make breathing easier. It has a long safety record in young children and in pregnancy. Evidence grade C · Traditional tier T1 Cleaning a cut or graze Early evidence — clinical wound-care practice and comparison work; no trial size on file. Saline is the standard wash for cleaning wounds in hospitals. It lifts out dirt and germs without harming new tissue, the way peroxide or iodine can. The support here is clinical practice more than a large trial we hold. Evidence grade C · Traditional tier T1 Sore throat Early evidence — small human studies plus long everyday use. In small studies, people who gargled warm salt water reported less pain and swelling for a time. Salt is thought to draw fluid out of swollen throat tissue. Gargling also rinses germs and irritants from the back of the throat. Evidence grade C · Traditional tier T1 Dry, gritty or red eyes Early evidence — small studies and wide clinical use; no large trial on file. Plain saline drops rinse out grit and add fluid to the tear film. Users report quick comfort from dryness and redness. Many eye doctors offer them as an option around contact lens wear. Evidence grade C · Traditional tier T1 Post-nasal drip and a dry, cracked nose Early evidence — small human studies of rinsing; the dry-air use rests on practice only. In small studies, regular rinsing cut the throat clearing and cough that come with post-nasal drip. Saline thins the mucus before it pools. For dry air, planes and travel, a spray adds moisture back. That last use rests on common practice, not on trials. Evidence grade C · Traditional tier T1 What Saline Solution has not been shown to do Saline has not been shown to kill the virus behind a cold or to stop you catching one. It has not been shown to clear a bacterial sinus infection on its own, or to stand in for antibiotics. Rinsing has not been

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
