White of my eye turned red
You looked in the mirror and the white of your eye is red or pink. It may feel gritty, itchy, or sore. Your eye might water, or your lids may feel sticky when you wake up.
One common reason is pink eye. The thin, clear layer over the white of the eye gets puffy and red. A virus, germs, or an allergy can set this off.
Other things can turn an eye red too. Smoke, dry air, contact lenses, or a long day at a screen are common ones. A tiny broken blood vessel can also leave a bright red patch.
When to see someone
See a doctor today if your sight blurs, your eye hurts, or light stings. Thick green or yellow pus, or an eye that was hit, also needs care. A red eye in a baby under one month is urgent.
Below are home and folk remedies linked with pink eye. Each one has a grade that shows how strong the evidence is. A low grade means little proof, so read the grade first.
