This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is the natural, healthy fluctuation in the time between each heartbeat. Rather than beating like a perfect metronome, a resilient heart constantly adjusts its rhythm in response to breathing, stress, emotions, and the environment. Higher HRV generally means your nervous system is flexible and well-recovered; lower HRV often signals stress, illness, or fatigue. HRV monitoring turns this invisible signal into actionable daily data.
Your heart is controlled by two branches of the autonomic nervous system — the sympathetic ('fight or flight') and the parasympathetic ('rest and digest'). When you're calm and recovered, the parasympathetic branch — driven largely by the vagus nerve — increases HRV. When you're stressed, under-recovered, or inflamed, the sympathetic branch dominates and HRV drops. By tracking HRV daily, you can see in real time whether your body is ready to push hard or needs rest and recovery. HRV biofeedback takes this further, training you to deliberately shift into a high-HRV coherent state using slow, rhythmic breathing.
Chest straps using electrodes (ECG-based) are the most accurate for short morning readings. Wrist-based wearables (Apple Watch, Garmin, Whoop, Oura Ring) use optical sensors and are convenient for overnight or continuous monitoring. Dedicated biofeedback devices like the HeartMath Inner Balance use the ear or fingertip and pair with guided breathing software to train coherence. Clinical Holter monitors provide the highest precision for medical assessment.
HRV analysis originated in clinical medicine in the 1960s-70s when researchers discovered that reduced HRV in newborns predicted fetal distress, and in the 1980s-90s when landmark studies showed low HRV powerfully predicted mortality after heart attack. Elite sports science adopted HRV for athlete monitoring in the 2000s. The explosion of consumer wearables in the 2010s brought HRV tracking to the mainstream, and it is now one of the most-used personal health metrics globally.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
