This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Weighted blanket therapy uses the principle of deep pressure stimulation — gentle, firm, distributed pressure across the body — to activate the parasympathetic nervous system and promote a sense of calm and safety. Originally developed in occupational therapy settings, particularly for children with sensory processing difficulties, weighted blankets have since gained widespread clinical and consumer use for anxiety, insomnia, ADHD, and PTSD. The experience is often likened to a firm hug, which is part of why it works: sustained gentle pressure signals the brain to dial down its threat-detection system.
The pressure from a weighted blanket activates special touch receptors in the skin and deeper tissues, sending signals to the brain that help shift the body from a stressed, alert state to a relaxed one. This triggers the release of calming brain chemicals like serotonin and dopamine while lowering levels of the stress hormone cortisol. The result is a slower heart rate, reduced muscle tension, and a measurable drop in feelings of anxiety — effects that are particularly noticeable at bedtime.
Standard weighted blankets range from 5 to 30 lbs and are typically recommended at about 10% of a person's body weight, though this guideline is based on clinical convention rather than strict research consensus. Glass bead-filled blankets tend to be quieter, thinner, and more conforming than plastic pellet versions. Weighted lap pads offer a portable alternative for daytime use at a desk or during travel. Weighted vests and shoulder wraps extend the same deep pressure principle to waking hours, commonly used in therapeutic school or workplace settings.
Deep pressure as a therapeutic concept was formally introduced into occupational therapy by Dr. A. Jean Ayres in the 1970s through her work on Sensory Integration theory. Weighted blankets as a specific product emerged from that framework in the 1990s and 2000s, first adopted in pediatric OT clinics for children with autism and sensory processing disorder. Their mainstream adoption surged in the 2010s as consumer brands brought them to a general anxiety and sleep market, and clinical research began catching up to their widespread use around the same time.
