This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Hachimijiogan is a traditional eight-herb Japanese Kampo formula derived from the classical Chinese formula Ba Wei Di Huang Wan, first described in the medical text 'Jin Gui Yao Lue' (Essentials of the Golden Cabinet) around the 3rd century CE. It is one of the most widely prescribed Kampo medicines in Japan and is officially listed in the Japanese Pharmacopoeia. The formula is built around Rehmannia glutinosa (prepared root) and combines seven complementary herbs to address what traditional medicine calls 'kidney yang deficiency' — a pattern linked to aging, cold sensitivity, urinary weakness, and declining vitality.
Modern research suggests Hachimijiogan works through several pathways: it appears to support bladder muscle tone and regulate overactive bladder signaling, help moderate blood glucose and insulin sensitivity, and exert mild anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. The cinnamon and aconite in the formula are traditionally considered warming agents that stimulate circulation and metabolic activity, while Rehmannia, Cornus, and Chinese yam provide a nourishing, restorative base. Together, the eight herbs are thought to work synergistically in ways that individual ingredients alone do not replicate.
In Japan, Hachimijiogan is most commonly dispensed as standardized extract granules (Tsumura brand granule packs are the most clinically studied form), which are dissolved in warm water. Tablets and capsules are available internationally. Traditional decoction — boiling the raw herbs — is still used by classical practitioners. The granule/extract form is preferred for clinical use because it is standardized and removes most risk from the aconite component through pharmaceutical processing.
Originally recorded in the Chinese medical classic 'Jin Gui Yao Lue' attributed to Zhang Zhongjing (circa 220 CE), the formula was adopted into Japanese Kampo practice and has been used continuously for over 1,000 years. In modern Japan, it is one of the most commonly prescribed over-the-counter Kampo medicines and is covered under the national health insurance system for specific indications including overactive bladder and diabetic complications.
