This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Bioidentical estrogen refers to estrogen hormones — most commonly 17-beta estradiol (E2), estriol (E3), and sometimes estrone (E1) — that have the exact same molecular structure as the estrogens made by your ovaries. These are typically derived from plant sources like wild yam or soy and processed into a form the body recognizes perfectly. They are available through FDA-approved products (like estradiol patches and gels) and through compounding pharmacies that create custom formulations based on individual hormone testing.
Estrogen works by binding to estrogen receptors found throughout the body — in the brain, bones, heart, skin, vaginal tissue, and more. When estrogen levels drop during perimenopause and menopause, these tissues lose important signals that regulate temperature control, bone rebuilding, moisture production, and mood. Replacing estrogen with a bioidentical form restores those signals in a way the body processes naturally, reducing symptoms and protecting long-term tissue health.
Transdermal delivery (patch or gel) is generally considered the safest route because it bypasses the liver, avoiding the clotting-factor changes associated with oral estrogen. Oral micronized estradiol is also bioidentical and widely used. Vaginal preparations deliver low doses locally and are excellent for genitourinary symptoms with very little systemic absorption. Pellet implants offer steady long-term release but dose adjustments are not possible once inserted. Compounded formulations allow personalization but have less regulatory oversight than FDA-approved products.
Hormone replacement therapy has been used since the 1940s, originally with horse-derived conjugated estrogens. The bioidentical approach gained traction in the 1990s and 2000s as women and clinicians sought options closer to the body's own hormones. The 2002 Women's Health Initiative study raised concerns about synthetic HRT, which accelerated interest in bioidentical alternatives. Major hormone society guidelines now emphasize that bioidentical estradiol — particularly via transdermal delivery — carries a favorable safety profile for most healthy women under 60 beginning HRT within 10 years of menopause onset.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
