This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Colloidal oatmeal is produced by finely grinding whole Avena sativa oat grain and processing it to remain suspended in water without settling, creating a milky colloid that adheres uniformly to skin. The United States FDA recognized colloidal oatmeal as a Category I OTC skin protectant active ingredient in 1989, establishing it as both safe and effective under regulatory standards. It is one of a very small number of natural botanical ingredients to hold this classification, distinguishing it from most plant-derived topicals.
Colloidal oatmeal works through several simultaneous mechanisms: its avenanthramides inhibit the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines (including IL-8 and TNF-alpha) and activate NF-kB pathway suppression, directly reducing itch and redness. Beta-glucan forms a thin protective film on the skin surface that locks in moisture and reduces transepidermal water loss (TEWL), while oat lipids and ceramide precursors help physically restore the disrupted stratum corneum barrier characteristic of atopic dermatitis. Saponins contribute mild cleansing activity and help buffer skin pH toward its healthy mildly acidic range.
Bath soaks provide whole-body coverage and are particularly suited for widespread dermatitis or pediatric eczema flares. Creams and lotions are used for targeted daily moisturization and maintenance. Ointments provide highest occlusion and are preferred for severely dry or fissured skin. Cleansing bars and body washes allow soap-free bathing without disrupting the skin barrier. Spray formats are convenient for scalp or hard-to-reach areas.
Oat baths have been used in European domestic medicine since at least the 18th century for soothing inflamed or itchy skin. The pharmaceutical transformation of raw oats into stabilized colloidal form was developed and commercialized in the mid-20th century, most prominently by the Aveeno brand founded in 1945. The FDA's 1989 OTC monograph legitimized its use within modern dermatological practice, and it has since become a first-line recommendation in standard-of-care guidelines for atopic dermatitis management in both pediatric and adult populations.
