What is Chrysanthemum + Goji Tea? Chrysanthemum and goji tea is one of the most beloved daily tonics in Traditional Chinese Medicine, enjoyed for over a thousand years across China and much of East Asia. The pairing is intentional — chrysanthemum flowers cool and clarify, while goji berries nourish and replenish, creating a balance the Chinese call 'clearing without depleting.' Today it remains a household staple in China and has found a growing audience worldwide, particularly among people looking for a gentle, caffeine-free alternative to green tea. How does Chrysanthemum + Goji Tea work? Chrysanthemum contributes powerful plant antioxidants, including luteolin and chlorogenic acid, which help calm inflammation and support the liver's detox processes — what TCM calls 'clearing liver heat.' Goji berries bring zeaxanthin and lutein, two carotenoids that concentrate directly in the retina and help protect eyes from oxidative damage caused by blue light and screen exposure. Together, the two ingredients deliver a broad antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect that supports eye, liver, and immune health. What forms does Chrysanthemum + Goji Tea come in? The traditional preparation is a simple hot brew: a small handful of dried chrysanthemum flowers and a teaspoon of dried goji berries steeped in hot (not boiling) water for 5–10 minutes . Pre-packaged tea bags offer convenience but often use smaller amounts of each ingredient. Instant granule sachets are popular in China but may contain added sugars. Combined extract capsules provide standardized doses but miss the ritual and warming qualities of the tea itself. Where it comes from: In TCM, chrysanthemum (Ju Hua) has been prescribed for liver and eye conditions for over 2,000 years , appearing in classical texts including the Shennong Bencao Jing. Goji berries (Gou Qi Zi) are mentioned in Chinese medical texts dating back over 1,000 years , classified as a superior tonic for longevity, vision, and kidney-liver nourishment. Their pairing as a daily tea became especially common during the Ming and Qing dynasties and remains one of the most commonly consumed herbal beverages in China today.

Helps

What does Chrysanthemum + Goji Tea help with? Eye fatigue and digital eye strain: This is the signature use of this tea pairing. Goji's zeaxanthin and lutein deposit directly in the retina and help filter blue light, reducing the oxidative damage that causes tired, strained eyes after long screen sessions. Chrysanthemum adds anti-inflammatory support that traditional practitioners have used to treat red, irritated eyes for centuries. Dry, tired, or blurry eyes: Zeaxanthin from goji berries is one of the best-studied nutrients for macular health and visual clarity. Regular consumption helps maintain the density of protective pigment in the central retina, supporting sharper vision and reducing dryness over time. Liver stress and irritability: In TCM, this tea is the go-to remedy for what practitioners call 'liver heat' — the irritability, headaches, and red eyes that come from stress, overwork, or too much screen time. Modern research supports chrysanthemum's liver-protective antioxidant activity, helping neutralize oxidative stress in liver cells. High blood pressure (mild support): Chrysanthemum extract has shown modest blood pressure-lowering effects in clinical studies, likely through its ability to relax blood vessels and reduce oxidative stress in the cardiovascular system. This tea is a gentle complementary option, not a replacement for medication. Antioxidant and immune support: Goji polysaccharides are well-studied for their immune-modulating effects, helping the body maintain a balanced immune response. Combined with chrysanthemum's phenolic antioxidants, this tea delivers a meaningful daily dose of compounds that protect cells from oxidative damage. Blood sugar balance: Goji polysaccharides have shown blood sugar-regulating effects in human studies, helping reduce post-meal glucose spikes and improving insulin sensitivity with regular use. This makes the tea a smart daily habit for people managing prediabetes or metabolic health. Skin health and aging: The combined antioxidant load from both ingredients — particularly beta-carotene, lutein, and flavonoids — helps protect skin cells from UV and environmental oxidative damage. Goji has a long history as a skin-nourishing tonic in Chinese beauty traditions, and modern research confirms its antioxidant activity supports collagen protection. Poor sleep from overheating or stress: In TCM, this tea is used to calm what's called 'uprising liver yang' — the agitated, overheated state that keeps people lying awake at night. The cooling and calming properties of chrysanthemum, combined with goji's nourishing yin qualities, make this a gentle evening wind-down tea for stress-related sleep disruption. Mild inflammation: Chrysanthemum's luteolin and apigenin are well-characterized anti-inflammatory flavonoids that help quiet inflammatory pathways throughout the body. Regular consumption of this tea provides gentle, cumulative anti-inflammatory support — particularly relevant for people with low-grade chronic inflammation.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
