What is Aloe Vera Juice? Aloe vera juice is made by processing the fleshy leaves of the Aloe barbadensis miller plant — either using only the clear inner gel or the whole leaf. It has been used medicinally for over 4,000 years across ancient Egypt, India, China, and the Americas. Today it is one of the most widely consumed functional plant beverages in the world. How does Aloe Vera Juice work? The inner gel is rich in acemannan, a gel-forming polysaccharide that coats and soothes the digestive lining, helping calm irritation in the esophagus and gut. Aloe also contains compounds that gently stimulate bowel movement and may help slow the absorption of sugar in the gut, which supports steadier blood sugar levels. Its anti-inflammatory plant compounds help reduce gut and systemic inflammation with regular use. What forms does Aloe Vera Juice come in? Inner leaf juice is the gentler option, ideal for daily digestive use. Whole leaf juice that has been decolorized (aloin removed) is also safe and widely available. Always choose a product labeled 'decolorized' or 'aloin-free' if using whole leaf. Powder forms are convenient but slightly less potent. Capsules concentrate the beneficial polysaccharides and skip the drink altogether. Where it comes from: Known as the 'plant of immortality' in ancient Egypt and the 'silent healer' in India, aloe vera has appeared in medical texts dating back to 1550 BCE. Cleopatra reportedly used it as a skin treatment, and it has been a staple in Ayurvedic, Traditional Chinese, and Indigenous healing systems across every continent where it grows.

Helps

What does Aloe Vera Juice help with? Acid reflux and heartburn (GERD): Aloe vera juice forms a soothing coating along the esophagus and stomach lining, helping reduce the burning sensation from acid. Clinical research shows it can meaningfully reduce classic GERD symptoms including heartburn, belching, and nausea compared to placebo, without significant side effects. Constipation: Aloe contains natural compounds that gently stimulate the bowel and increase water content in the colon, making stools easier to pass. It works more gently than harsh laxatives and is particularly useful for people with sluggish digestion or those who prefer a natural option. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS): The soothing, anti-inflammatory properties of aloe gel may help calm the gut lining in people with IBS, reducing pain, bloating, and irregular bowel habits. Studies show mixed but generally positive results, with some people experiencing meaningful symptom relief compared to placebo. High blood sugar (type 2 diabetes support): Aloe vera juice appears to help lower fasting blood sugar and improve insulin sensitivity in people with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes. The gel may slow the absorption of sugar from the digestive tract, helping prevent blood sugar spikes after meals. Gut inflammation and leaky gut: Acemannan and other polysaccharides in aloe gel help nourish and support the gut lining, reducing inflammation and potentially improving gut barrier function. This makes it a popular choice for people with chronic gut irritation or inflammatory bowel concerns. High cholesterol: Some clinical evidence suggests aloe vera can modestly lower total cholesterol and LDL while raising HDL in people with elevated lipids. Beta-sitosterol, a plant sterol in aloe, is thought to compete with dietary cholesterol for absorption in the gut. Mouth ulcers and gum inflammation: Aloe vera used as a mouth rinse or gel has shown real results for healing canker sores faster and reducing gum inflammation. Its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties make it a gentle, effective alternative to conventional mouthwash. Skin health and inflammatory skin conditions: Drinking aloe vera juice contributes antioxidants, hydration, and anti-inflammatory compounds that support skin from the inside. While topical aloe is the most studied route, regular internal use is linked to improvements in skin hydration and elasticity.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
