Too anxious to even try sex

You want to want it. But when sex comes close, your chest goes tight and your mind races. So you stall, stay up late, or turn away before anything can start.

When to see someone

See a doctor if you never get an erection, even alone or on waking. Book a visit too if you have chest pain, leg pain when you walk, or new thirst and frequent peeing. If you feel hopeless or think of harming yourself, get help today.

Below is a list of traditional remedies linked to erection trouble. Each one has an evidence grade that shows how much human research exists, not a promise of results. Read the grade first, then talk with your doctor or pharmacist before you try anything.

    Why this matches
If your ED feels tied to physical performance or libido, this herb has been evaluated specifically for that presentation in clinical research.
    Why try it
Supported by a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized trials suggesting benefit for erectile function in men with ED.
    Dose or use
Follow product labeling; consult a healthcare practitioner.
    Time to results
    Typically 4–8 weeks
    Key study
Systematic review (2026, PMID 40360723): Tribulus terrestris for management of patients with erectile dysfunction: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized trials.
    Caution
May interact with medications for diabetes or blood pressure; avoid if you have hormone-sensitive conditions.
  2. L-arginine

Supported by smaller clinical studies· Centuries of traditional use (Evidence grade B · Traditional use long-standing)Long-standing traditional staple

Amino acid that supports blood flow

    Why this matches
When ED feels physical — about circulation or stamina — L-arginine is a building block your body uses to make nitric oxide, which helps blood vessels relax and open.
    Why try it
L-arginine is a precursor your body uses to make nitric oxide, which helps blood vessels relax and open. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, a higher daily dose taken for three months improved erectile-function scores in men whose ED was linked to circulation (vasculogenic ED). It's generally well tolerated, though not a replacement for medical evaluation.
    Dose or use
Studied at about 6 g daily for three months. Follow product labeling and consult a healthcare practitioner, especially about the right dose for you.
    Time to results
    Typically several weeks
    Key study
Randomized Controlled Trial (2022, PMID 34973154): Long-term high-dose L-arginine supplementation in patients with vasculogenic erectile dysfunction: a multicentre, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial. L-arginine 6 g/day as a single compound for 3 months significantly improved IIEF-6 erectile-function scores versus placebo in men with vasculogenic ED.
    Caution
May lower blood pressure; use caution with blood-pressure or ED medications (especially nitrates or PDE5 inhibitors) and check with your practitioner first.
  3. Panax ginseng extract (Red Ginseng)

Supported by smaller clinical studies· Centuries of traditional use (Evidence grade B · Traditional use long-standing)Long-standing traditional staple

Botanical long used for ED and vitality

    Why this matches
If your ED feels physical — low stamina or performance — red ginseng is a warming tonic herb traditionally taken to support energy, circulation, and sexual function.
    Why try it
Red (Panax) ginseng is one of the more widely studied botanicals for erectile function. A Cochrane review of randomized trials found it may improve erectile function compared with placebo — but the certainty of that evidence is low and the trials were short-term, so treat it as promising rather than proven.
    Dose or use
Follow product labeling; consult a healthcare practitioner.
    Time to results
    Typically 4–8 weeks
    Key study
Systematic Review (2021, PMID 33871063): Ginseng for erectile dysfunction (Cochrane Review). Pooled 9 randomized trials in 587 men with mild-to-moderate ED; ginseng may improve erectile function versus placebo, though the evidence is low-certainty and short-term.
    Caution
May affect blood sugar and blood pressure and can be overstimulating; use caution with diabetes, blood-pressure, or blood-thinning medications.
  4. Berberine

Not yet assessed· We have not reviewed the literature for this one (Evidence grade not assigned · Traditional use recognised)Recognised traditional use

Metabolic support that may indirectly help ED

    Why this matches
If blood sugar, cholesterol, or circulation may be part of what's driving your ED, berberine works on those metabolic root causes — rather than on erections directly.
    Why try it
Berberine is used to support blood sugar, cholesterol, and cardiovascular health. Any benefit for ED would be indirect, through improving those foundations — it has not itself been studied for erectile function.
    Dose or use
Follow product labeling; consult a healthcare practitioner.
    Time to results
    Typically 4–12 weeks
    Key study
Not studied for erectile dysfunction. Its recognized uses are metabolic — blood sugar, cholesterol, and cardiovascular health — which can be underlying contributors to ED when metabolic dysfunction is a root cause.
    Caution
May lower blood sugar; use with caution if on diabetes or blood pressure medications, and avoid in pregnancy.

My desire is low too — it feels like drive, hormones, or overall vitality

  3. Zinc Deficiency

Centuries of traditional use· Human evidence not yet assessed (Evidence grade not assigned · Traditional use long-standing)Long-standing traditional staple

    Low zinc can lower testosterone

    Why this matches
If you're addressing root causes, it's worth checking zinc — your body needs it to make testosterone, and low levels are a correctable contributor to low drive and ED.
    Why try it
Zinc is essential for testosterone production, so a genuine shortfall can quietly undermine sexual function. Correcting a confirmed deficiency is a sensible foundational step — a simple blood test can show whether it applies to you.
    Dose or use
Ask your practitioner about testing zinc status before supplementing; correct any deficiency toward normal levels rather than mega-dosing.
    Time to results
Weeks to months once a deficiency is corrected
    Key study
Zinc is required for testosterone production, and deficiency is a recognized, correctable contributor to low libido and sexual dysfunction. Best confirmed by testing rather than assumed.

    Dose or use
Find the point on the lower back, on the spine roughly level with the navel; apply steady pressure for 1–2 minutes daily.
    Time to results
Varies; used as an ongoing daily practice

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
