Forgetting names more than before
You spot a face you know well. The name is right there, just out of reach. It often pops up an hour later, once you stop trying.
This kind of slip is common as the years pass. Names are hard to store, since they are just sounds with no hook. Stress, thin sleep, and doing two things at once make it worse.
Other things can play a part too. Low thyroid, low B12, some drugs, and low mood can all dull recall. Hearing loss counts as well: a name you never caught never got stored.
When to see someone
See your doctor if you get lost on a road you know well. Go too if others notice the change first, or you forget steps in a task you do daily. Sudden confusion, slurred speech, or a weak arm needs same-day care.
