Flat and heavy every day
Your mood sits low and stays there. Your body feels heavy, like you are moving through water. Sleep does not seem to lift it.
Feelings may seem dulled or far away. Good news and bad news can land the same way. Small tasks, like a shower or a reply to a text, can feel like too much.
This flat, weighed-down state is one of the common ways low mood shows up. It can build after stress, loss, a long illness, or poor sleep. Low thyroid, low iron, some drugs, and pain can also make your body feel this way, so the cause is not always clear from the outside.
When to see someone
See a doctor if this has lasted most days for two weeks or more. Go sooner if you cannot work, eat, or care for yourself, if you are losing weight without trying, or if you feel breathless or oddly weak. If you have thoughts of suicide, call your local emergency number or a crisis line now.
Below is a list of remedies people use for low mood. Each one carries a grade that shows how much human research exists for it, not how well it will suit you. Read the grades first, and talk with your doctor before you add anything, especially if you take prescription medicine.
