Dull ache under my right ribs
You feel a dull ache under your right ribs. It is more of a heavy, full feeling than a sharp pain. Some days you notice it after a big meal, or when you lie on that side.
Your liver sits right there, just under the lower right ribs. Fat can slowly build up inside it. As the liver swells a little, the thin lining around it stretches, and that stretch can ache.
Other things can cause the same feeling. Your gallbladder, stomach and bowel all sit close by. Trapped gas, a pulled muscle, or a bruised rib can feel much the same, so the ache alone does not tell you the cause.
When to see someone
Book a doctor if the ache is sharp, severe, or has lasted more than two weeks. Go the same day if your skin or the whites of your eyes look yellow, your urine turns dark, your stools go pale, or you run a fever with pain that spreads to your right shoulder. Get emergency care for vomiting blood, black tarry stools, a swelling belly, or new confusion.
Below is a list of foods, herbs and daily habits that people have long used for fatty liver. Each one carries an evidence grade, which shows how much human research stands behind it. A grade is not a promise of any result, so talk with your doctor first, above all if you take medicine.
