What is it? Vitamin D and K2 are fat-soluble vitamins that play crucial roles in bone health, cardiovascular health, and overall wellness. When taken together, they synergistically enhance each other's benefits, particularly in the context of calcium metabolism and bone health. How does it work for medicinal purposes? Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium from the diet, which is essential for maintaining strong bones and teeth. Vitamin K2 helps direct calcium to the bones and teeth while preventing it from depositing in the arteries and soft tissues. This combination supports healthy calcium utilization, reducing the risk of osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease. What are the active ingredients that are important for its medicinal properties? The primary active ingredients in this combination are: Vitamin D (D3 or cholecalciferol): Enhances calcium absorption in the gut. Vitamin K2 (menaquinone, particularly MK-7): Directs calcium to the bones and prevents arterial calcification. What forms does it come in? Capsules Tablets Softgels Liquid drops Chewables What if I have an imbalance or deficiency? Deficiency in vitamin D can lead to weakened bones, increased risk of fractures, and muscle weakness. Deficiency in vitamin K2 can lead to improper calcium metabolism, increasing the risk of osteoporosis and arterial calcification. Combining these vitamins helps address both deficiencies, ensuring proper calcium metabolism and bone health. When was it first used for medicinal purposes? Vitamin D has been recognized for its role in bone health since the early 20th century, while vitamin K2's specific role in directing calcium to bones was discovered later. The combined use of vitamins D and K2 for optimal health benefits has gained attention more recently as their synergistic effects have been better understood.

What does Vitamins D & K2 Combined help with? Vitamin D3 and vitamin K2 are often sold together in one pill. D3 is the form your skin makes in sunlight, and it is found in a few foods. K2 comes from foods like natto, hard cheese and egg yolk. Low vitamin D on a blood test Strong evidence — long-standing human supplementation studies; this is a lab marker, not a disease outcome. D3 is the best studied form for raising 25(OH)D. That is the blood marker your doctor orders. Low levels are common, hitting an estimated 40% of US adults, and they track with tiredness, low immunity, bone pain and mood changes. Evidence grade A · Traditional tier T0 Falls and weak muscles in older adults Strong evidence — repeated human trials of D3 in older adults; our file lists no trial sizes, doses or journals. Our file calls this one of the best-supported uses of D3. Trials in older adults found meaningfully fewer falls. Vitamin D receptors are found in muscle tissue, and good D levels track with better strength, balance and coordination. Evidence grade A · Traditional tier T0 Thinning bones and bone loss Early evidence — human studies of the D3 and K2 pair; no sizes or doses on file. Vitamin D is well established to help the gut take up calcium from food. In lab work, K2 switches on osteocalcin, the protein that locks calcium into bone. Studies of the pair found larger gains in bone density than either vitamin alone, but our file lists no trial sizes. Evidence grade C · Traditional tier T0 Ongoing low-grade inflammation Early evidence — several human trials, mainly in people who started low in vitamin D. Several trials found better readings on CRP, a blood marker of inflammation. The gains showed up mostly in people whose D levels were low to start with. No trial sizes or doses are on file. Evidence grade C · Traditional tier T0 Low mood and the winter blues Early evidence — human supplementation studies, mostly in people who were deficient. Studies found modest but real gains in mood scores. The gains were clearest in people who were low in vitamin D. In lab studies, D3 affects serotonin, a brain chemical tied to mood; low D is strongly linked to seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Evidence grade C · Traditional tier T0 Blood sugar and insulin Early evidence — supplementation studies in people with low vitamin D; modest results. In people who were deficient, D3 brought small gains in blood sugar markers. Vitamin D receptors sit in the beta cells of the pancreas, which make insulin, but that is lab anatomy rather than a trial. In group studies, low D goes with more trouble handling insulin. Evidence grade C · Traditional tier T0 Getting sick often, weak immunity Evidence doesn't support this — group studies linking low D to more infections; no supplementation trial on file. In lab studies, D3 helps switch on immune cells, including T-cells and macrophages. Group studies link low D levels to more chest and airway infections. Our file holds no human trial showing this pair cuts how often you get sick. Evidence grade D · Traditional tier T0 Stiff arteries and calcium in artery walls Evidence doesn't support this — intake and group studies only; no human trial on file. In lab work, K2 switches on Matrix Gla Protein (MGP), the body's strongest natural brake on artery calcium. People with higher K2 intake had less calcium buildup in artery walls and less arterial stiffness in group studies. Studies like these cannot show cause. Evidence grade D · Traditional tier T0 Keeping calcium out of soft tissue when you take high-dose D Not yet tested in people — mechanism reasoning only; no human trial on file. The concern is that high-dose D3 alone raises calcium that may land in soft tissue. In theory, K2 turning on MGP would steer that calcium away from artery walls. Our file holds no human trial that tests this safety idea. Evidence grade insufficient · Traditional tier T0 What Vitamins D & K2 Combined has not been shown to do No human trial on file s

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
