Broke my wrist from a small fall
You put out a hand to catch yourself. The fall was small, maybe from standing height. Your wrist broke anyway, and that can be a shock.
Doctors call this a fragility break. It means the bone gave way under force that most bones shrug off. Often the bone itself has grown thin and light.
Thin, weak bone is called osteoporosis. Bone thins with age, and it can thin faster after menopause. Steroid drugs, smoking, low calcium, low vitamin D and little exercise all play a part.
When to see someone
Get your wrist seen today. Go to the emergency room if it looks bent, the skin is torn, or your fingers go numb, cold or pale. Ask your doctor for a bone scan too, called a DEXA.
Below are remedies people have used for thin bone. Each one carries an evidence grade showing how much research has looked at it. A grade is not a promise, and none of this replaces care for the break itself.
