What is Thyroid Hormones (natural support)? Your thyroid is a small butterfly-shaped gland in your neck that acts like your body's engine — it sets the speed for your metabolism, energy, mood, digestion, and even hair growth. When it slows down, everything feels sluggish. Natural thyroid support uses a combination of nutrients (like iodine, selenium, and zinc) and plant-based compounds (like ashwagandha and guggul) to give your thyroid what it needs to do its job properly. This approach is especially useful for people with mild or subclinical hypothyroidism, or those who want to protect thyroid health before problems develop. How does Thyroid Hormones (natural support) work? The thyroid needs iodine as its main raw material to build thyroid hormones (T4 and T3). Selenium is essential for converting the inactive form (T4) into the active form your cells actually use (T3). Zinc supports the signaling system that tells the thyroid when to produce more hormones. Ashwagandha has been shown to help raise T3 and T4 levels while also calming the stress response — which, when chronic, can suppress thyroid function. Guggul, a resin from Ayurvedic medicine, contains compounds called guggulsterones that may also support T3 conversion. What forms does Thyroid Hormones (natural support) come in? Iodine comes from diet (seaweed, fish, dairy), kelp capsules, or potassium iodide drops. Selenium is best from Brazil nuts or selenomethionine supplements. Ashwagandha is most studied as a standardized root extract (KSM-66 or Sensoril). Combination 'thyroid support' formulas often include several of these nutrients together. Guggul is available as a standardized extract (guggulsterones 2.5–5% ). Always check a combination product to avoid exceeding safe iodine levels. Where it comes from: Iodine's role in preventing goiter (thyroid swelling) was recognized in the 1800s, leading to iodized salt programs worldwide. Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese medicine identified herbs like ashwagandha and guggul as metabolic and thyroid tonics centuries ago. Selenium's critical role in thyroid hormone conversion was discovered in the 1990s. Today, nutritional approaches to thyroid health are among the most researched areas of integrative medicine.

Helps

What does Thyroid Hormones (natural support) help with? Fatigue and low energy: A sluggish thyroid is one of the most common hidden causes of persistent tiredness. Supporting thyroid hormone production with iodine, selenium, and ashwagandha helps restore the metabolic rate your cells need to generate steady energy throughout the day. Subclinical hypothyroidism: This is when TSH is mildly elevated but T3 and T4 are still in the normal range — a grey zone where many people feel off but are told their labs are fine. Nutritional support with selenium, zinc, and ashwagandha can help nudge TSH back toward optimal and relieve symptoms before full hypothyroidism develops. Brain fog and poor concentration: Thyroid hormones directly regulate how neurons fire and how quickly your brain processes information. When thyroid output is low, mental sharpness drops noticeably. Restoring thyroid function often clears brain fog faster than most other interventions. Weight gain from slow metabolism: The thyroid controls how fast your body burns calories at rest. Even a mild slowdown causes unexplained weight gain that resists diet and exercise. Optimizing thyroid hormone levels helps restore a healthy metabolic rate. Hair thinning and hair loss: Hair follicles are highly sensitive to thyroid hormone levels. Thinning hair — especially at the outer third of the eyebrows — is a classic sign of low thyroid. Both selenium (for conversion) and zinc (for follicle signaling) help address this at the root cause. Low mood and mild depression: Thyroid hormones influence serotonin and dopamine activity. Mild hypothyroidism is a frequently overlooked driver of low mood, anxiety, and depression. Several studies show that correcting thyroid function improves mood scores meaningfully. Hashimoto's thyroiditis (autoimmune thyroid): Hashimoto's is the most common cause of hypothyroidism worldwide, where the immune system attacks the thyroid. Selenium supplementation is the most evidence-backed natural intervention here — it has been shown to reduce thyroid antibody levels (TPO-Ab), which signals a calmer immune attack. Vitamin D correction also helps dampen the autoimmune response. Cold sensitivity and poor circulation: Feeling cold all the time — especially in hands and feet — is a telltale sign of low thyroid activity. Thyroid hormones regulate body heat production, and supporting their levels naturally helps restore warmth and circulation. Irregular or heavy periods linked to thyroid: Low thyroid function disrupts the hormonal balance that regulates the menstrual cycle, often causing heavier periods, longer cycles, or irregular patterns. Supporting thyroid health can help normalize the cycle without direct hormonal intervention. High TSH levels (borderline): TSH is the signal your brain sends to ask the thyroid to work harder — a high TSH means your thyroid isn't keeping up. Natural support with selenium, ashwagandha, and iodine (in appropriate amounts) can help reduce TSH toward optimal range in mild cases.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
