What is it? Tanshinone is a group of bioactive compounds extracted from the roots of Salvia miltiorrhiza , commonly known as red sage or Danshen, a plant widely used in traditional Chinese medicine. These compounds, including Tanshinone I , Tanshinone IIA , and Tanshinone IIB , exhibit potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and cardiovascular benefits. Tanshinones are known for supporting heart health, reducing oxidative stress, and offering neuroprotective and anticancer properties. How does it work for medicinal purposes? Tanshinones work by modulating cellular pathways that regulate inflammation, oxidative stress, and vascular health. Anti-inflammatory action : Inhibits pro-inflammatory mediators such as NF-κB and cytokines. Antioxidant activity : Neutralizes free radicals and enhances endogenous antioxidant defenses. Cardiovascular benefits : Improves blood flow, prevents clot formation, and protects against atherosclerosis. Neuroprotective effects : Reduces neuronal damage in conditions like stroke and neurodegenerative diseases. What are the active ingredients that are important for its medicinal properties? Tanshinone IIA : Provides anti-inflammatory and cardiovascular protection. Tanshinone I : Exhibits anticancer and neuroprotective effects. Tanshinone IIB : Improves vascular health and reduces oxidative stress. Dihydrotanshinone I : Offers antimicrobial and anticancer properties. What forms does it come in? Capsules/Tablets : Standardized extracts for oral supplementation. Tinctures : Liquid extracts for sublingual or oral use. Injection (Danshen extracts) : Used in clinical settings, primarily in Asia, for cardiovascular treatment. Powder : Used in teas or DIY formulations. What if I have an imbalance or deficiency? Tanshinone supplementation can help address: Cardiovascular issues : Supports healthy blood flow and reduces inflammation. Inflammation-related disorders : Modulates inflammatory responses. Oxidative stress : Enhances antioxidant capacity, reducing cellular damage. When was it first used for medicinal purposes? The use of Salvia miltiorrhiza dates back over 2,000 years in traditional Chinese medicine, primarily for treating cardiovascular disorders and promoting blood circulation. Modern isolation of tanshinones began in the 20th century, leading to their integration into pharmacological research and clinical applications. Conclusion Tanshinones, derived from red sage, offer remarkable therapeutic potential for cardiovascular, neurological, and inflammatory conditions. Backed by centuries of traditional use and modern scientific research, tanshinones provide a natural and effective option for improving health and preventing chronic diseases.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
