What is Pushyanug Churna? Pushyanug Churna is a time-honored Ayurvedic compound herbal powder first described in classical texts such as the Ashtanga Hridayam and the Sharangadhara Samhita. It brings together more than 20 astringent, anti-inflammatory, and hormone-supportive herbs, working as a team rather than relying on a single active compound. The formula is specifically designed for conditions the Ayurvedic tradition groups under 'Raktapradara' (excessive uterine bleeding) and 'Shwetapradara' (leucorrhea). How does Pushyanug Churna work? The majority of herbs in the blend — including Lodhra, Ashoka, Jambu, and Amra bark — are rich in tannins and polyphenols that help tighten and tone the uterine lining and reduce excessive blood loss. Ashoka bark in particular has been studied for compounds that may support normal hormonal balance and reduce uterine muscle spasm. Supporting herbs like Shatavari and Anantamula add an adaptogenic, anti-inflammatory dimension that helps address the root hormonal and tissue imbalances driving these symptoms. What forms does Pushyanug Churna come in? The traditional form is a fine herbal powder (churna) taken with honey, rice water, or warm water. Modern formulations are also available as capsules or compressed tablets for convenience, though traditional texts favor the powder form for faster absorption and synergy with the carrier medium. Where it comes from: Pushyanug Churna is formally listed in the Ayurvedic Formulary of India (AFI) — the official government reference for classical Ayurvedic preparations — and has been prescribed by Ayurvedic physicians for centuries to address female reproductive complaints. Its name references the Pushya nakshatra (a lunar asterism considered auspicious for medicine in Vedic tradition), and the formula appears in multiple classical Samhita texts spanning at least 1,000 years of documented use.

Helps

What does Pushyanug Churna help with? Heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia): The astringent herbs in this formula — particularly Lodhra and Jambu bark — help firm up the uterine lining and reduce the excessive shedding that causes heavy flow. Many women report noticeably lighter periods within one to two cycles of consistent use. Irregular or prolonged periods: Ashoka bark and Shatavari root gently support hormonal balance, helping to regulate the timing and length of menstrual cycles. The formula works best when taken consistently across multiple cycles rather than just during bleeding. Leucorrhea (abnormal vaginal discharge): The combination of astringent and antimicrobial herbs helps reduce excess discharge by toning the vaginal and cervical mucosa and creating an environment less hospitable to the organisms that trigger abnormal secretion. Uterine weakness and poor tone: Several ingredients have been traditionally classified as 'uterine tonics' in Ayurveda — they help strengthen the smooth muscle of the uterus over time, which supports healthier contractions and better overall pelvic function. Pelvic inflammatory discomfort: Anti-inflammatory herbs like Musta and Rakta Chandana help calm irritation and soreness in the pelvic region, making this formula useful alongside conventional care for chronic low-grade pelvic discomfort. Postpartum uterine recovery: Traditionally prescribed after childbirth to help the uterus return to its normal size and tone, reduce postpartum discharge (lochia), and support tissue healing in the weeks following delivery. Fibroids-related heavy bleeding: While not a treatment for fibroids themselves, Pushyanug Churna is commonly used in Ayurvedic practice to manage the heavy bleeding that fibroids cause, helping reduce flow and associated fatigue without hormonal side effects. Anemia linked to heavy periods: By reducing chronic blood loss from heavy periods, the formula can indirectly help iron levels recover over time, especially when combined with iron-rich foods or iron supplementation. Menopausal transition spotting: The uterine astringent and mild estrogenic-modulating properties may help reduce irregular spotting that is common in perimenopause, though evidence is primarily traditional at this stage. Recurrent urinary tract infections (women): Some classical Ayurvedic texts list this formula for recurrent urinary discomfort in women, attributed to the antimicrobial properties of several ingredient herbs. This is a secondary indication with limited modern research.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
