What is Pomegranate (Pomella Extract)? Pomegranate has been revered for thousands of years across Persian, Ayurvedic, and Mediterranean traditions as a symbol of health and longevity. Pomella is a branded, standardized extract of pomegranate fruit standardized to high levels of punicalagins — the most powerful antioxidant compounds in the fruit — making it far more concentrated and consistent than regular pomegranate juice. Unlike whole fruit or juice, which contain variable amounts of active compounds, Pomella extract delivers a reliable, research-supported dose of the polyphenols most linked to cardiovascular, anti-inflammatory, and metabolic benefits. How does Pomegranate (Pomella Extract) work? Pomegranate's key compounds — especially punicalagins — are broken down by gut bacteria into urolithins, which are the molecules that actually enter the bloodstream and do much of the work inside the body. These urolithins and other polyphenols help quiet inflammatory signals, relax and protect blood vessels, lower oxidative stress in cells, and support healthy blood sugar regulation. The extract also supports nitric oxide production in blood vessel walls, which helps arteries stay flexible and blood pressure stay in a healthy range. What forms does Pomegranate (Pomella Extract) come in? Standardized extracts like Pomella are the most research-backed form, typically dosed at 250–500 mg /day and standardized to 30% or more punicalagins. Pomegranate juice provides benefits but requires large volumes ( 8–12 oz daily in studies) and comes with significant sugar. Capsules and powder forms offer convenience without added sugar. Where it comes from: Pomegranate appears in ancient Persian, Greek, Egyptian, Indian, and Chinese medical traditions — used for everything from digestive complaints and fever to heart support and skin health. It is referenced in the Ebers Papyrus (ancient Egypt), Ayurvedic texts, and the Quran. Modern extraction technology has allowed researchers to isolate and concentrate the most bioactive compounds, leading to clinical trials that validate many of these traditional uses.

Helps

What does Pomegranate (Pomella Extract) help with? High blood pressure: Pomegranate helps relax and widen blood vessels by boosting nitric oxide, a natural compound your body uses to keep arteries flexible. Clinical studies consistently show meaningful reductions in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure after regular use, with effects appearing within a few weeks. Heart disease risk and cholesterol: Pomegranate polyphenols help protect LDL cholesterol from oxidation — the process that makes 'bad' cholesterol actually dangerous to artery walls. It also supports healthy HDL function and reduces markers of arterial inflammation, making it a well-supported daily tool for cardiovascular protection. Inflammation and joint pain: The urolithins and ellagic acid from pomegranate quiet key inflammatory signals in the body, similar in direction (though not magnitude) to common anti-inflammatory drugs. People with arthritis and other inflammatory conditions report reduced joint pain and stiffness with consistent use over several weeks. Blood sugar and insulin resistance: Pomegranate extract helps slow the spike in blood sugar after meals and improves how sensitive cells are to insulin. Studies in people with type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome show improvements in fasting blood sugar and insulin levels after supplementation. Prostate health: Pomegranate juice and extract have been studied specifically for prostate health, showing the ability to slow the rise of PSA (a prostate cancer marker) and support normal prostate cell behavior. It is one of the more researched natural options in men's prostate health. Memory and brain function: Early research suggests pomegranate polyphenols may help protect brain cells from oxidative damage and support memory, particularly in middle-aged and older adults. Daily supplementation has been linked to improvements in verbal and visual memory in small human trials. Gut health and digestion: Pomegranate's tannins and polyphenols act as prebiotics, selectively feeding beneficial gut bacteria while suppressing harmful ones. The gut microbiome also determines how well punicalagins convert to urolithins, so a healthy gut improves how much benefit you get from the supplement. Exercise recovery and muscle soreness: Pomegranate extract has been shown to reduce exercise-induced muscle soreness and strength loss after intense training, likely by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation in muscle tissue. Athletes using it before and after workouts report faster recovery. Skin aging and UV protection: Applied topically or taken orally, pomegranate polyphenols help protect skin cells from UV-related damage, support collagen production, and reduce markers of skin aging. Some trials show improved skin texture and reduced dark spots with oral supplementation. Urinary tract infections (UTI prevention): Pomegranate extract has mild anti-bacterial properties and may help prevent certain bacteria from adhering to the urinary tract lining. While not a replacement for antibiotic treatment, it shows promise as a preventive support, especially for recurrent UTIs.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
