This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Allium cepa — the common onion — is one of humanity's most ancient and universally used foods, cultivated for over 5,000 years across virtually every culture on Earth. It belongs to the same Allium family as garlic and leeks, and like its relatives, it owes its medicinal power to a rich combination of sulfur compounds, flavonoids, and prebiotic fibers. Far from a simple kitchen staple, the onion has been used medicinally in Ayurveda, ancient Egypt, Greek medicine, and traditional Chinese and Persian healing systems for generations.
When onion tissue is cut or crushed, it activates an enzyme called alliinase, which converts stored compounds into potent organosulfur molecules — similar to the process in garlic. Quercetin, one of the most studied antioxidant flavonoids in the human diet, is found in especially high concentrations in onion skins and outer layers; it helps calm inflammation, relax blood vessels, and support immune responses. The onion's prebiotic fiber (fructooligosaccharides) feeds beneficial gut bacteria, adding a digestive health dimension to its overall benefits.
Raw onion provides the highest quercetin and organosulfur content. Cooking reduces some heat-sensitive compounds but retains significant antioxidant activity. Standardized quercetin extracts and onion skin powder (especially red and yellow varieties) are used in capsule and tablet supplements. Onion juice has been studied for scar reduction when applied topically. Red onions tend to have the highest flavonoid content; yellow onions are also excellent sources.
Onions appear in Egyptian tomb inscriptions from 3,500 BCE, were used as currency for workers building the pyramids, and feature in ancient Greek and Roman medicine as treatments for coughs, infections, and heart complaints. In Ayurveda, raw onion juice is traditionally used for respiratory conditions and as a warming digestive tonic. Medieval European herbalists used onion poultices for wounds and infections — a use now supported by its confirmed antimicrobial compounds.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
