This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Osha Root (Ligusticum porteri) is a perennial herb in the carrot family that grows at high elevations across the Rocky Mountains and northern Mexico. The root has a distinctively pungent, celery-like aroma and has been central to healing traditions of the Navajo, Apache, Zuni, and many other Indigenous nations for centuries. It is sometimes called 'Bear Medicine' because bears were observed seeking out the root after emerging from hibernation.
Osha root's key active compounds — especially Z-ligustilide and ferulic acid — have demonstrated antimicrobial, antiviral, and bronchodilatory properties, meaning they help relax and open the airways while fighting off infection. The volatile oils act as natural expectorants, loosening mucus so it can be cleared more easily from the lungs and bronchial passages. It also appears to support immune activity by promoting circulation to the lungs and upper respiratory tract.
Tincture (alcohol extract) is the most widely used form and is considered highly effective because the volatile oils extract well in alcohol. Decoctions (simmered root tea) are the traditional preparation and remain popular. Capsules offer convenience but may lose some volatile oil potency during processing. Throat sprays and syrups are popular for acute sore throats. Steam inhalation with the dried root is a traditional method for direct airway delivery.
Osha root occupies a sacred role in the healing traditions of many Southwest and Plains Indigenous nations. The Navajo used it to treat colds, coughs, and as a ceremonial protective herb. The Apache and other groups chewed the root raw during physical exertion at altitude to support breathing. It was adopted into Mexican folk medicine (as 'chuchupate') and later into Western herbalism through the Eclectic physicians of the 19th century, who valued it for respiratory infections and febrile illness. It remains one of the most respected respiratory herbs in North American herbal medicine.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
