This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Mold illness — formally called Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) when fully developed — happens when certain people's immune systems can't clear mycotoxins after mold exposure, leaving them stuck in a state of runaway inflammation. The Mold Illness Support Protocol is a layered natural approach combining toxin binders, antioxidant support, gut repair, and anti-inflammatory nutrients. It was largely systematized by Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker, whose biotoxin pathway framework now underpins how integrative and functional medicine practitioners approach this condition.
Mycotoxins produced by molds like Stachybotrys, Aspergillus, and Penicillium can bind to cell membranes, trigger inflammatory cytokines, and disrupt hormone-like signaling molecules including MSH (melanocyte-stimulating hormone) and VIP. Binders like activated charcoal and cholestyramine trap these toxins in the gut so they can't be reabsorbed. Antioxidants like glutathione and NAC help neutralize oxidative stress from the inflammatory cascade. Gut support, omega-3s, and phosphatidylcholine help restore the body's normal regulatory systems once the toxic burden drops.
Binders come as powders or capsules and must be taken away from food and other supplements. Glutathione is most bioavailable as liposomal liquid or IV. NAC comes as capsules or effervescent powder. Quercetin is best absorbed in phytosome form. Omega-3s come as softgels or liquid. Probiotics come as capsules (ideally refrigerated). The full protocol is staggered — binders first, then antioxidants, then repair-phase nutrients.
Recognition of mold as a driver of chronic multi-system illness has grown significantly since the 1990s. Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker's research beginning in the late 1990s was pivotal in mapping the biotoxin pathway and developing the Shoemaker Protocol, which remains the most widely referenced framework in functional and integrative medicine for CIRS. The natural support elements of the protocol draw on well-established detoxification and anti-inflammatory principles used across naturopathic, functional, and integrative medicine traditions.
