What is Medorrhinum? What is Medorrhinum? Medorrhinum is a single homeopathic remedy. It is also called the Gonorrhoea nosode. Homeopaths give it for long-standing complaints that they link to gonorrhoea in you or in your family. The listed source material is Neisseria gonorrhoeae (urethral discharge). That means discharge carrying the germ that causes gonorrhoea. The source is diluted over and over, with shaking between each step. At the usual 30C strength, almost none of the first material is left. What you take is a sugar pellet, or a few drops of water and alcohol. Here is the honest verdict on the evidence. No human trial of Medorrhinum has been published. Trials of homeopathy as a whole do not separate it from placebo (a dummy treatment). Its standing comes from homeopathic case writing. Long use in tradition is not proof that something works. That point is made here once, and not repeated below. Medorrhinum does not treat gonorrhoea or any other infection. Never use it in place of antibiotics. How does Medorrhinum work? How is it meant to work? The plain answer is that no one has shown a way it could work. At normal strengths, nothing is left that can act on your body. Homeopathy's own idea is "like cures like". A substance said to cause a set of symptoms is given in tiny amounts. The aim is to prompt the body to correct that same pattern. Homeopaths also hold that diluting and shaking, a step they call potentisation, leaves an imprint of the first substance. Mainstream chemistry and pharmacology (the study of how drugs act in the body) do not support that idea. When people feel better after taking it, the reasons are likely ordinary ones. Many complaints rise and fall on their own. A long, unhurried consultation can make you feel cared for, and what you expect can change how you rate your symptoms. Read any claim about "drainage", "miasms" or clearing an inherited taint as tradition talk, not measured biology. What forms does Medorrhinum come in? What forms can you buy? Medorrhinum comes as tiny sugar pellets, small tablets, granules, or liquid drops in alcohol and water. Pellets are the most common form for home use. Strengths are written as 6C, 12C, 30C, 200C, 1M and higher. The bigger the number, the more dilution steps were used. It is usually bought on its own, as a single remedy, rather than mixed into a combination product. Where it comes from: Where does Medorrhinum come from? Samuel Swan introduced it in the United States around 1880. It became one of the better-known nosodes, which are remedies made from disease material. Constantine Hering had set out the nosode idea decades earlier. James Tyler Kent and later homeopathic writers built up a detailed symptom picture for it. It is still a staple of classical homeopathic practice today. Its standing is strong inside homeopathy and nowhere else.

Helps

What does Medorrhinum help with? Long-standing pelvic and urinary complaints: No human trial has tested Medorrhinum for these. Homeopathic texts describe it for aching, burning or dragging pelvic symptoms that linger after an old infection has cleared. Any ongoing pelvic pain needs a proper medical check first. Recurrent vaginal or urethral discharge (after infection has been ruled out): There is no trial evidence here. Traditionally it is chosen for discharge that keeps coming back and has a strong smell. Get tested before assuming an infection has gone — discharge is a common sign of one. Asthma and hay fever: No study supports Medorrhinum for breathing problems. Homeopathic writing links it to asthma that eases when lying face down. Asthma can kill; keep using your prescribed inhalers. Eczema and other stubborn skin rashes: No published trial covers this use. Older texts describe copper-coloured patches and rash behind the ears or in skin folds. Spreading, weeping or hot rashes need a doctor, as they may be infected. Chronic joint and low back pain: No human trial evidence exists. Traditional prescribing points to pain that is worse in damp weather and better at the seaside. Pain that wakes you at night or comes with fever or weight loss should be assessed. Restless, over-active behaviour in children: There is no trial evidence, and this use is entirely traditional. Homeopaths describe a hurried, impatient child who bites their nails. This is not a substitute for a proper assessment of a child's development or behaviour.

Where it comes from:

Where does Medorrhinum come from?

Samuel Swan introduced it in the United States around 1880. It became one of the better-known nosodes, which are remedies made from disease material. Constantine Hering had set out the nosode idea decades earlier.

James Tyler Kent and later homeopathic writers built up a detailed symptom picture for it. It is still a staple of classical homeopathic practice today. Its standing is strong inside homeopathy and nowhere else.

Who should avoid Medorrhinum?

  • Do not use if you have, or might have, gonorrhoea or any other sexually transmitted infection — get tested and take the antibiotics your doctor prescribes, because this remedy cannot treat an infection
  • Do not use if you would use it in place of any prescribed medicine, such as an asthma inhaler, insulin or antibiotics
  • Do not use if you have symptoms that need urgent care, such as fever, severe pain, burning when passing urine, or pelvic pain
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding without first asking your doctor or midwife, as untreated infection in pregnancy can harm the baby
  • Do not use if you are giving it to a baby or young child instead of seeing a doctor about their symptoms
  • Do not use if you have a weakened immune system (for example from chemotherapy or HIV) and are relying on it for an infection
  • Do not use if you cannot digest lactose (milk sugar) and the pellets are lactose-based — ask for a sucrose version
  • Do not use if you must avoid alcohol completely and only the liquid drops are available

When should you see a doctor?

See a doctor straight away if you have pain or burning when you pass urine, unusual discharge from the penis or vagina, pain during sex, bleeding between periods, or pain and swelling in a testicle. These can be signs of a sexually transmitted infection that needs antibiotics.

Get urgent help for fever with pelvic or lower belly pain, a rash that spreads quickly or weeps, or breathing that is getting harder despite your inhaler.

Also see a doctor if a partner tells you they have tested positive for an infection, or if any symptom lasts more than two weeks, gets worse, or keeps coming back.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
