Syphilinum

No human trials support Syphilinum, though it remains a long-standing named remedy within homeopathy alone.

Home

What is Syphilinum? Syphilinum is a homeopathic remedy. It is a single drug, not a blend. Its source is listed in Latin as Treponema pallidum, taken from the fluid of a syphilitic sore (the open sore of syphilis, called a chancre). It is also sold as Luesinum or the syphilis nosode. A nosode is a homeopathic remedy made from diseased tissue. The source is watered down step by step, again and again, and then shaken at each step. Homeopaths give it for long-running health problems that keep coming back. No human trial shows that it works. Long use inside one tradition is not proof that a remedy has any effect on the body. How does Syphilinum work? There is no known way for this remedy to act on the body. At the common 30C strength, none of the source material is left in the pill. Homeopathy rests on two ideas. The first is that "like cures like". The second is that shaking each dilution leaves some trace of the source behind. Neither idea fits what we know from chemistry. Once the last molecule is gone, there is nothing left to act. Trials do not tell homeopathic pills apart from placebo (dummy) pills. What forms does Syphilinum come in? Syphilinum comes as small sugar pellets, larger sugar pills, or liquid drops. Common strengths are 30C, 200C, 1M and 10M. The C scale means each step mixes one part into ninety-nine parts of carrier. A 30C has gone through that step thirty times. You will not see it on most shop shelves. It is usually supplied by homeopathic pharmacies or handed out by a homeopath. Some countries limit the sale of nosodes. Where it comes from: Nosodes go back to the 1830s. Constantine Hering, a German-born homeopath, made the first ones. Syphilinum came into homeopathic use later in the 1800s. Homeopaths tied it to pain at night, bone pain, and slow-healing sores. Writers such as J. H. Allen built a picture of a "syphilitic" type of patient. That picture comes from case notes and homeopathic texts. It was never tested in trials. The remedy remains a staple of one tradition only.

Helps

What does Syphilinum help with? Long-running sores that heal slowly: Homeopathic texts list this as a lead reason to pick Syphilinum. That comes from case notes only. No trial has tested it, and slow-healing sores can point to diabetes, poor blood flow or infection, so get them looked at. Bone pain that feels worse at night: Old homeopathic writing ties this remedy to deep bone pain that peaks after dark. There is no trial evidence. Bone pain at night needs a doctor, as it can come from infection or cancer. Headaches that come back again and again: Homeopaths may choose it for headaches that run from sunset to sunrise. This is tradition, not tested effect. No study has compared it with placebo (a dummy pill). Sore throats that keep returning: Some homeopaths give it when throat problems return over and over. No trial supports this. A throat infection may need antibiotics, so do not wait it out. Nerve pain: Homeopathic texts link the remedy to burning or shooting nerve pain. The link rests on case reports. Nerve pain has many causes, and treatments that work do exist. Long-term skin rashes: Homeopaths may use it for rashes that last for months. No human study has tested this use. A rash on the palms and soles can be a sign of syphilis and needs a test.

Where it comes from:

Nosodes go back to the 1830s.

Who should avoid Syphilinum?

  • Do not use if you have syphilis, or think you may have it: you need antibiotics, and this remedy does not treat infection
  • Do not use if you are relying on it to stop you catching syphilis or any other infection, as it is not a vaccine
  • Do not use if you have a fever, a spreading rash or a sore that is not healing, until a doctor has seen you
  • Do not use if you plan to stop or cut back a prescribed medicine in order to try it
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless your doctor knows and agrees — and never in place of syphilis testing in pregnancy
  • Do not use if you are giving it to a baby or child with an illness that needs a doctor
  • Do not use if you have a weak immune system from illness or from drugs such as chemotherapy, without telling your care team
  • Do not use if you cannot take lactose (milk sugar), unless you get a lactose-free form

When should you see a doctor?

See a doctor quickly if you have a painless sore on the genitals, mouth or anus, a rash on the palms or soles, swollen glands, a fever, hair loss in patches, or sores that will not heal. A simple blood test can check for syphilis, and antibiotics clear it. Left alone, syphilis can harm the heart, brain, nerves and eyes, so do not wait to see if a remedy helps. Get urgent care for sudden vision loss, a bad headache with a stiff neck, confusion, or weakness on one side of the body.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
