What is IV NAD+ Therapy? NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme found in every cell of your body, essential for converting food into energy and keeping your DNA repair systems running. As we age — or through chronic stress, alcohol use, or illness — NAD+ levels naturally decline, which is linked to fatigue, cognitive decline, and slower cellular recovery. IV NAD+ therapy bypasses the digestive system entirely, delivering this molecule straight into the bloodstream for maximum absorption. How does IV NAD+ Therapy work? NAD+ sits at the center of your cellular energy production, acting as a key helper molecule in the process that generates ATP — the fuel your cells run on. It also activates sirtuins, a family of proteins that regulate aging, inflammation, and DNA repair. When delivered intravenously, NAD+ rapidly enters tissues including the brain, potentially restoring cellular function faster than oral supplements can. What forms does IV NAD+ Therapy come in? IV infusion is the primary delivery method, administered over 2–8 hours in a clinical setting. Some clinics also offer intramuscular (IM) injections for maintenance dosing between full infusion sessions. Oral NAD+ supplements exist but have much lower bioavailability compared to IV delivery. Where it comes from: The therapeutic use of NAD+ has roots in the 1960s when South African physician Dr. Harding started using IV NAD in treating alcoholism and addiction — work that was largely overlooked for decades. Modern interest surged in the 2000s as aging researchers like David Sinclair at Harvard began publishing on NAD+ pathways and sirtuins, triggering a wave of clinical interest in IV NAD+ as a longevity and recovery tool.

Helps

What does IV NAD+ Therapy help with? Brain fog and mental clarity: NAD+ is critical for brain cell energy production, and low levels are associated with sluggish mental performance. Many patients report sharper focus and clearer thinking within the first day or two of an infusion series, likely because neurons get a rapid energy boost when NAD+ availability is restored. Chronic fatigue and low energy: When mitochondria — your cells' energy factories — run low on NAD+, they produce less ATP, leaving you feeling exhausted even after rest. IV NAD+ directly refuels this system, with many recipients reporting a meaningful uptick in stamina and vitality after one to a few sessions. Addiction recovery support: This is one of the most studied applications of IV NAD+. Addiction depletes NAD+ stores significantly, impairing the brain's natural reward signaling. IV NAD+ has been used to reduce cravings and ease withdrawal symptoms for alcohol, opioids, and stimulants — helping to replenish neurological function during early recovery. Anxiety and depression: NAD+ supports the production of serotonin and other neurotransmitters by fueling the enzymes that make them. Some patients receiving IV NAD+ for other conditions report notable mood improvements, and early clinical work in addiction recovery populations suggests reduced anxiety and depression scores. Age-related cognitive decline: NAD+ levels drop by as much as 50% between young adulthood and middle age, and this decline is linked to reduced brain resilience and memory. IV NAD+ aims to slow or partially reverse this drop, supporting the sirtuin proteins that maintain brain cell health and protect against neurodegeneration. Athletic recovery and performance: Intense exercise accelerates NAD+ consumption as muscles work to repair microscopic damage. IV NAD+ is increasingly used by athletes seeking faster recovery between training sessions, with the theory being that restoring NAD+ speeds up muscle repair and reduces oxidative stress. Neurodegenerative disease risk: Conditions like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's are associated with mitochondrial dysfunction and declining NAD+ levels. While IV NAD+ is not a cure, early research suggests it may support the cellular maintenance pathways that help protect neurons from damage over time. Post-COVID fatigue (long COVID): COVID-19 appears to deplete NAD+ stores and impair mitochondrial function in ways that persist long after infection. Clinicians working with long COVID patients have begun using IV NAD+ as part of broader recovery protocols, with some patients reporting improvements in energy and cognitive symptoms. Sleep quality: NAD+ plays a role in regulating circadian rhythm by supporting SIRT1, a protein that helps set the body's internal clock. Some patients receiving IV NAD+ therapy report improvements in sleep depth and consistency, though this area needs more formal research.

Quick Facts

  • What it is: A clinic-administered intravenous infusion that delivers NAD+ — a molecule your cells use to produce energy and repair DNA — directly into the bloodstream.
  • Main uses: Used to support energy levels, mental clarity, addiction recovery, and cellular aging.
  • Best for: Brain fog and mental clarity, Addiction recovery support, Chronic fatigue
  • Active ingredients: Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD+)
  • Forms: Intravenous infusion (IV drip), Intramuscular injection (IM)
  • Time to effect: Energy and mood improvements often noticed within hours to days of first infusion; deeper recovery benefits may emerge over a series of sessions.
  • Side effects: Generally well-tolerated at clinical doses; common side effects during infusion include nausea, flushing, and chest tightness — usually resolved by slowing the drip rate.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
