What is Iridium metallicum? Iridium metallicum is a homeopathic remedy made from iridium. Iridium is a hard, silver-white metal in the platinum family. Homeopaths give it mostly for deep tiredness and weakness. They use it while people get over an illness, above all in older people. It is a single remedy, made from one substance rather than a mix. The metal is first ground up with lactose (milk sugar). Then it is diluted again and again, with hard shaking at each step. At 30C, the strength sold most often, almost no iridium is left in what you take. Here is the honest verdict up front. No published human trial has tested Iridium metallicum for any health problem. Trials of homeopathy as a whole do not separate it from placebo (a dummy treatment). Its standing rests on homeopathic tradition. Traditional use is not proof that something works. How does Iridium metallicum work? Homeopathy rests on an idea called "like cures like". A substance that could cause symptoms in a well person is given to someone who already has those symptoms. The amount given is extremely small. Homeopaths also believe that diluting and shaking a remedy makes it act more strongly, not more weakly. There is no accepted physical or biological reason for this idea. At 30C, no molecules of iridium are left in the pill. So the remedy cannot act on the body the way a drug does. Any change people notice is best explained by the placebo effect. That means you feel better partly because you expect to. Two other things matter. Many complaints, such as tiredness after an infection, settle on their own with time. Homeopathic visits are also long and caring, and being listened to can truly lift how you feel. What forms does Iridium metallicum come in? Iridium metallicum is sold in the same forms as other single homeopathic remedies. Common forms include: - Small sugar pills or pillules, dissolved under the tongue - Fine granules or poppy-seed-sized pellets, used mainly for children - Liquid dilutions in water and alcohol, taken as drops - Lactose-based powders in single-dose paper wraps Strengths are shown with numbers and letters, such as 6C, 30C or 200C. A higher number means the substance was diluted more times. In homeopathic thinking, a higher number is a "stronger" remedy. In physical terms it simply means less of anything is there. Where it comes from: Iridium was found in 1803 by the English chemist Smithson Tennant. He found it in the residue left after platinum ore was dissolved. Homeopaths added metals of this family to their materia medica in the 1800s. They did so after "provings", in which volunteers took a substance and wrote down their symptoms. Iridium metallicum appears in classic homeopathic reference books. These include Clarke's Dictionary of Practical Materia Medica and Boericke's pocket manual. There it is described as a remedy for nervous exhaustion and weakness in older or recovering people. It has always been a minor remedy. Homeopathy knows it, but it is not a staple of the tradition. It has no history of use outside homeopathy.

Helps

What does Iridium metallicum help with? Tiredness and weakness while getting over an illness: This is the classic homeopathic picture for Iridium metallicum. It comes from texts written in the 1800s, not from research. No trial has tested it for tiredness after infection or surgery. Tiredness that lasts after an illness needs a medical check. Anaemia (low red blood cells), thyroid problems and depression can all look much the same. Nervous exhaustion: Older homeopathic books suggest this remedy for people who feel worn out in mind, jumpy and unable to focus. There is no human trial evidence for this use. See a doctor if the exhaustion keeps going. A doctor can look for causes that can be treated. They can also talk you through options with better support behind them. Low stamina in older adults: Traditional prescribing aimed this remedy at frail or older people who tire fast. No study has measured strength, walking distance or daily function with it. Loss of stamina in later life is worth looking into. Heart, lung and kidney problems are common causes. Headache with mental tiredness: Homeopathic sources mention dull headaches linked to overwork and weakness. Nothing beyond these case notes supports the use. A headache that is new, severe or changing always needs a medical check. Do not treat it at home. Bowel changes in older people: Some old materia medica entries link Iridium metallicum with slow or loose bowels in older people. This is traditional description only, with no trial support. Any change in bowel habit that lasts more than a few weeks should be checked by a doctor.

Who should avoid Iridium metallicum?

  • Do not use if you have a serious or fast-changing problem such as chest pain, trouble breathing, a high fever, a suspected broken bone or a lump you cannot explain — get medical care instead.
  • Do not use if you are thinking of stopping, delaying or replacing a prescribed medicine; keep taking it and speak to your doctor first.
  • Do not use if you are offered crude iridium powder or a very low dilution below about 4C, because iridium is a heavy metal and is not something to swallow in material amounts.
  • Do not use if you have lactose intolerance (trouble digesting milk sugar) and the product is lactose-based; ask for a sucrose-only or liquid form.
  • Do not use if you must avoid alcohol completely, unless you choose the pill form rather than the liquid dilution.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding without first asking your doctor or midwife.
  • Do not use if you are giving it to a baby under one year old, unless a doctor has checked the child first.
  • Do not use if you have a weakened immune system, for example during chemotherapy, in place of the treatment or preventive care your specialist has advised.

When should you see a doctor?

See a doctor if tiredness or weakness lasts more than two weeks, gets worse, or comes with weight loss, fever, night sweats, breathlessness or unusual bruising. Get urgent help for chest pain, sudden confusion, fainting, a severe headache that starts suddenly, or signs of an allergic reaction such as a spreading rash, swelling of the lips or tongue, or difficulty breathing. Always tell your doctor about every remedy and supplement you take, including this one.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
