Evidence grade insufficient: no human trial of Glonoinum itself. Traditional tier T2: a long-standing staple of homeopathy since the 1840s.

Home

What is Glonoinum? Glonoinum is a homeopathy remedy. It is made from nitroglycerine, the same drug doctors use for chest pain. Homeopaths give it for a hot, pounding headache and a red, flushed face. The remedy is made by diluting the drug again and again. At 30C, none of the source drug is left. What you take is mostly water, alcohol or a sugar pill. Trials do not show that it works better than a dummy pill. Its standing comes from long use in one tradition. Long use is not proof that a remedy works. How does Glonoinum work? No one has shown a way for this remedy to work in the body. That is the honest starting point. Homeopathy uses the idea of "like cures like". Raw nitroglycerine can cause a throbbing headache, a red face and a pounding heart. So homeopaths give a very diluted dose for those same signs. The dilution is the problem. Past about 12C, no molecules of the source drug remain. At 30C there is nothing left to act on you. Homeopaths say the water keeps a "memory" of the drug. There is no accepted proof for that idea. Any benefit people feel is most likely a placebo effect, which means feeling better because you expect to. What forms does Glonoinum come in? Glonoinum comes in a few simple forms. Small sugar pellets are the most common. You let them melt under your tongue. Tablets work the same way. Liquid drops in water and alcohol are also sold. Some shops sell combination headache products that list Glonoinum among several remedies. Common strengths are 6C, 30C and 200C. Low strengths such as 1X, 2X and 3X are sold in some countries. Those low ones may still contain real drug. Where it comes from: Nitroglycerine was first made in 1847 by Ascanio Sobrero. He tasted a tiny amount and got a violent headache. Constantine Hering, a homeopath, tested it on healthy people in the 1840s and 1850s. He named it Glonoinum. His notes describe bursting head pain, a red face and a thumping heart. The remedy has stayed in homeopathy books ever since. It is best known there as a remedy for sun headaches. Doctors later used the same drug for chest pain, but that is a separate story.

Helps

What does Glonoinum help with? Throbbing or bursting headache: This is the classic use in homeopathy books. The picture is head pain that beats with each heartbeat and feels worse when you bend down. No human trial has tested Glonoinum for headache. Headache after time in the sun or heat: Homeopaths pick this remedy when a headache starts after hours in hot sun. There is no trial evidence for it. Get out of the heat, drink water and cool down, since heat illness can turn serious fast. Feeling of blood rushing to the head: Old texts describe a hot, full, pounding head with a red face. This is a traditional picture only. No study has tested whether the remedy changes it. Hot flushes with a red face: Some homeopaths use it for hot flushes around menopause. Evidence for this is absent. Talk to your doctor about options that have been tested. Headache around a monthly period: Traditional texts mention head pain that comes with a late or heavy period. No trial supports this use. See your doctor if period headaches are bad or new. Dizziness with a hot, flushed head: Homeopathy books link this remedy to dizziness that comes with heat and flushing. There is no human evidence. New or repeated dizziness needs a medical check.

Where it comes from:

Nitroglycerine was first made in 1847 by Ascanio Sobrero.

If this is an emergency

Some reactions to Glonoinum need urgent care. Call your local emergency number or go to an emergency department straight away — do not wait to see whether it passes.

Who should avoid Glonoinum?

  • Do not use it if you take sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis) or any similar drug for erection problems. Mixing nitrates with these can drop your blood pressure to a dangerous level.
  • Do not use it if you take riociguat, a drug for high blood pressure in the lungs.
  • Do not use it if you take nitrate heart medicines, such as a glyceryl trinitrate spray or isosorbide tablets, unless your heart doctor says it is fine.
  • Never use it to treat chest pain, and never swap your real heart medicine for it.
  • Do not use low dilutions such as 1X, 2X or 3X without medical advice, because they may still contain real drug.
  • Do not use it if you have very low blood pressure or you faint often.
  • Do not use it if you have had a recent heart attack or stroke, unless your doctor agrees.
  • Do not use it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless your doctor agrees, because safety has not been tested.
  • Do not give it to a baby or a young child unless a doctor tells you to.
  • Do not use the pellets if you cannot digest lactose (milk sugar); ask for drops instead.
  • Do not use it in place of care for heat stroke, which is a medical emergency.

When should you see a doctor?

Call emergency services now if you have chest pain, pressure or tightness, trouble breathing, or pain spreading to your arm or jaw. Do the same for a sudden headache that is the worst you have ever had.

Get urgent help for a headache with fever, a stiff neck, a rash, confusion, weakness on one side, slurred speech or a fit.

Get urgent help for heat stroke, which can bring hot dry skin, confusion or fainting after time in the heat.

See your doctor soon if headaches are new, more often, or worse than before. Also see your doctor if hot flushes bother you day after day, or if your headache has not eased after 24 hours.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
