Cong Bai Qi Wei Yin is a warm herbal drink from Chinese medicine. In English it is called Scallion Drink with Seven Ingredients. It is handled as one single formula, not as seven separate products.
It was made for the first day or two of a chill or a cold. It was aimed at people who were weak, tired, or low in blood. Old texts name fever, chills, a sore head, and dry skin with no sweat.
One part of the drink is aged rice wine, so the finished drink holds alcohol. That matters more than the herbs do for safety. It shapes who can take it and what drugs it clashes with.
Human trials of this formula are missing. Its place rests on long use in one tradition, not on proof. Long use is not proof that something works, and that point holds for every section below.
No one has shown in people how this drink works. What follows is how it is thought to act, not proven fact.
Chinese medicine says the scallion and the dried ginger warm the body. Both are said to push out a chill caught from cold wind. The fermented soybean is said to help the skin open and sweat a little.
A light sweat was the goal. A heavy sweat was seen as harmful in a weak person.
The last herbs were added to guard the body's fluids. Rehmannia and Ophiopogon are said to cool and moisten. Healers used them so that sweating would not dry out someone who had lost blood.
In lab dishes, ginger and scallion show mild effects on germs and on swelling. Alcohol makes you feel warm for a short time. None of that tells you what happens inside a sick person.
The classic form is a decoction. You simmer the herbs in water and wine, then drink the warm liquid.
Some makers sell it as granules that you stir into hot water. Ready-made pills and bottled drinks are rare.
The formula is not a common shop item in the West. Most people who take it get it from a trained Chinese medicine practitioner. Home mixing is not a good idea, since the herb amounts and the wine both need care.
The formula comes from the Zhou Hou Bei Ji Fang, an emergency handbook written by Ge Hong in China. That places it near 340 CE, in the Eastern Jin period.
It was listed as a fast fix for a chill caught by someone already weak. Later Chinese texts kept it and taught it as a teaching example of how to sweat a frail person safely.
It stayed within Chinese medicine. It was never picked up by other healing traditions.
See a doctor if your fever goes above 39 C, lasts more than three days, or keeps coming back.
Get help the same day if you cough up blood, feel short of breath, have chest pain, or feel confused. A stiff neck with a headache and a rash needs emergency care now.
Stop the drink and call your doctor if you bruise easily, bleed from the gums or nose, or notice dark stools. Also stop if your skin or eyes turn yellow, which can be a sign of liver trouble.
If you get a rash, swelling of the lips or face, or trouble breathing after a dose, treat it as an emergency.
Evidence grades and traditional-use labels are explained in our methodology. Nothing here is medical advice.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
