This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Chi Xiao Dou is the adzuki bean — a small, reddish-brown legume that has been a cornerstone of Traditional Chinese Medicine and East Asian food culture for over 2,000 years. It is used both as a therapeutic food and as a formal herbal ingredient, prized for its ability to move excess fluid out of the body and calm inflammation. Beyond its medicinal role, it is one of the most widely eaten beans in East and Southeast Asia, found in everything from savory soups to sweet red bean paste.
Chi Xiao Dou works through several complementary pathways. Its saponins and potassium content support the kidneys in filtering excess fluid, producing a gentle natural diuretic effect without depleting electrolytes the way harsh diuretics can. Its rich anthocyanin and polyphenol content reduces oxidative stress and calms low-grade inflammation in the digestive tract and blood vessels. The high resistant starch and fiber content feeds beneficial gut bacteria, slows sugar absorption, and supports healthy cholesterol levels.
In TCM, Chi Xiao Dou is most commonly prepared as a water decoction — simmered as a soup or congee — which is considered the most bioavailable and therapeutically active form. Paired with Job's Tears (Yi Yi Ren) in the classic formula Chi Xiao Dou Yi Yi Ren Tang, it is used specifically for dampness, edema, and skin issues. Capsule and powdered extract forms are available for convenient daily supplementation. Eating the whole bean as food also provides therapeutic benefit, especially for blood sugar balance and digestive health.
Chi Xiao Dou appears in the Shennong Ben Cao Jing (Divine Farmer's Materia Medica), one of the oldest and most authoritative TCM texts dating back roughly 2,000 years. It was classified as a food-medicine (shi yao) — a category of substances considered safe enough to eat daily yet potent enough to treat disease. Its primary TCM functions are 'draining dampness,' tonifying the heart, detoxifying, and reducing swelling. It has remained a staple in Chinese, Japanese (as azuki), Korean, and Vietnamese medicine and cuisine without interruption for millennia.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
