What is Calcarea arsenicosa? Calcarea arsenicosa is a homeopathic remedy. It is made from calcium arsenate, a white powder that holds arsenic. Homeopaths give it for tiredness, puffy swelling, hot flushes and worry. The remedy is made by diluting the source again and again. At 30C, the usual strength, none of the starting material is left. What you take is water, alcohol or a sugar pellet. Trials do not show any effect beyond placebo. The remedy has been used in homeopathy since the 1800s, but long use is not proof that something works. This page reports both axes: the evidence grade and the traditional tier. How does Calcarea arsenicosa work? There is no known way this remedy could act in the body. Homeopathy rests on the idea of "like cures like". A substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person is said to ease those same symptoms when it is made very weak. Makers shake the liquid hard at each step. They say this leaves an imprint of the source. Chemistry and physics do not support that idea. At 30C, no molecule of the source is left. So any change you notice is likely a placebo effect. That is a real feeling, but it comes from hope and attention, not from the pill. What forms does Calcarea arsenicosa come in? You will most often see small white sugar pellets. Liquid drops in water and alcohol are also sold. Strengths carry a number and a letter. "C" means each step mixes 1 part in 100. "X" means 1 part in 10. Common labels are 6C, 30C and 200C. A higher number means more dilution steps, not more substance. Low labels such as 1X, 3X or 6X may still hold real arsenic. Where it comes from: Homeopathy began in Germany in the late 1700s with Samuel Hahnemann. His followers tested many minerals and metals in diluted form. Calcarea arsenicosa appears in homeopathic reference books from the 1800s. It was studied by "provings", where healthy people took doses and wrote down what they felt. It has never been a leading remedy. It sits in the second rank of homeopathic mineral remedies and is used mainly by trained homeopaths.

Helps

What does Calcarea arsenicosa help with? Long-lasting tiredness and weakness: Homeopathic books list this remedy for people who feel worn out and weak, often after an illness. No human trial has tested it for tiredness. If you are tired for weeks, ask a doctor to check for causes such as low iron, thyroid trouble or depression. Puffy swelling of the face, eyelids or ankles: Old homeopathic texts link this remedy to puffy swelling, often worse in the morning. There is no trial evidence for this use. Swelling can be a sign of heart or kidney trouble, so get it checked rather than treated at home. Hot flushes and low mood around menopause: Homeopaths have used this remedy for flushes, sweating and gloom around the change of life. No study has tested this remedy for these symptoms. Proven options exist, so it is worth talking to a doctor. Anxiety with restlessness at night: Tradition describes a picture of fear, fidgeting and waking in the small hours. This picture comes from provings, not from trials. Talking therapy and sleep habits have much better support. Burning, itchy skin rashes: Homeopathic texts mention dry, burning skin that feels better with warmth. No published trial supports this. A rash that spreads, weeps or hurts needs a real diagnosis. Night-time breathlessness: Some homeopathic books list this remedy for breathing trouble that wakes people at night. There is no trial evidence. Night breathlessness can come from asthma or heart failure, and both need medical care.

Where it comes from:

Homeopathy began in Germany in the late 1700s with Samuel Hahnemann.

If this is an emergency

Some reactions to Calcarea arsenicosa need urgent care. Call your local emergency number or go to an emergency department straight away — do not wait to see whether it passes.

Who should avoid Calcarea arsenicosa?

  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, because arsenic can harm a baby
  • Do not use if you are buying it for a child, unless a doctor who knows your child agrees
  • Do not use if you are offered a low strength such as 1X, 3X, 6X or 6C, because real arsenic may still be in it
  • Do not use if you have kidney disease, since your kidneys are what clear arsenic from your body
  • Do not use if you have liver disease
  • Do not use if you have a heart rhythm problem such as long QT (a fault in the heart's electrical signal that can cause fainting)
  • Do not use if you take arsenic trioxide, a cancer drug that is itself arsenic
  • Do not use if you have had skin cancer or any cancer that a doctor linked to arsenic
  • Do not use if you are handling or swallowing raw calcium arsenate powder; it is a poison and a pesticide and must never be taken undiluted
  • Do not use if you would be taking it in place of treatment for a serious illness such as cancer, diabetes, asthma or an infection

When should you see a doctor?

Call emergency services at once if anyone swallows raw calcium arsenate powder, or if someone has vomiting, watery diarrhoea, stomach cramps, a garlic smell on the breath, confusion or a racing heart after taking a low-strength product. This is poisoning and needs hospital care.

See a doctor within a few days if your tiredness, swelling, rash or breathlessness does not settle, or if it is getting worse.

See a doctor sooner if you notice numb or tingling hands and feet, dark patches or hard spots on your skin, blood in your urine, or swelling that spreads. Always tell your doctor what you have been taking.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
