Sharp pain down there during sex
It can feel like a stab, a burn, or a raw spot low down. Some people feel it the moment a partner pushes in. Others feel it deep inside, or only once sex is over.
The pain may not stop when sex stops. You may ache for hours, or feel sore the next day and need to pee more. Pain like this is common, but it is not something you just have to live with.
Your bladder sits right in front of the vagina, so sex presses on it. With interstitial cystitis, also called bladder pain syndrome, the bladder wall stays sore even though no infection shows up. Dryness, tight pelvic floor muscles, skin trouble on the vulva, and infections can cause this pain too.
When to see someone
See a doctor if you bleed after sex or run a fever. Get checked for blood in your urine, new sores or lumps, or discharge that smells bad. Book a visit if the pain is new, keeps getting worse, stops you having sex at all, or if urine tests keep coming back clear.
Below are remedies people use for bladder pain syndrome. Each one carries an evidence grade, based on how much solid research exists. A grade is not a promise, so talk with your doctor first.
