Mind races when I lie down
You switch off the light and settle in. Your body feels heavy and tired. But your mind speeds up, jumping from one thought to the next.
Maybe you replay the day. Maybe you plan tomorrow, or chew on an old worry. The room is quiet, so the thoughts sound loud.
For many people, bedtime is the first still moment all day. Stress you pushed aside now has room to speak up. Late coffee, evening screens, and worry about not sleeping can add to the noise.
When to see someone
Talk to your doctor if this happens most nights for more than a few weeks. Go sooner if you feel low or hopeless, if you are on edge all day, or if your heart pounds and your chest feels tight. If you lean on drink or pills to switch off, or you have thoughts of harming yourself, get help today.
Below you will find entries from our stress reduction list. Each one has an evidence grade that shows how much research stands behind it. A grade is not a promise of a result for you, so speak with your doctor or pharmacist first if you take other medicine or are pregnant.
